People are fucking animals. You will never know this more than if you rent to them. They break and destroy everything in your building around the clock. As a landlord you exist in a constant cycle between answering calls at 4 am from idiots who flooded their unit and paying people to fix stuff no intelligent person could ever break. On top of this the government does everything in their power to make it as difficult as possible to evict someone. I've had dipshits completely destroy a unit and haven't been able to evict them for months. I lose all the money to repair the unit. I lose all the money in missed rent payments. Going after shitty tenants is a massive cost legally in of itself.

It's almost impossible to vet people beforehand as well. The most normal looking people are the ones that will have the most fucked up and disgusting living habits. It's a dice roll every time I have to fill a unit. That's one of the biggest reasons landlords jack up the rent. It's one of the only things we can do to try and filter out the dregs of society. One bad tenant can incur tens of thousands of dollars in costs that will never be recuperated.

People who complain about landlords are fucking children that have never had to deal with someone elses shit. I could have easily taken over my families properties and lived a supposed easy life. Fuck that.

I'm talking local businesses though not giant companies since I'm not well known in that crowd. But local business owners for the most part are pretty great people who work really hard. Well my house burnt down it was in a pretty busy area I ended getting insurance and being a builder by trade i built 3 town houses / units on the block. I rent each of them for 500 a week... The people who work in that part of the city are probably on over 120k a year so I don't really care. I bought a house in the high country and I work fly in fly out in the mines. My weekly income is 4500 a week...I worked hard and set my self up while everyone my age was out partying and wasting money. It's ironic how so many people see what I have done and fucking winge about it. Well fuck them and fuck you to hans you are not entitled to the fruits of my labour

Fuck tenants. No seriously fuck them. I bought a house two decades ago. Since then I have gone through 3 sets of tenants.

First guy rate a grow-op and because I didn't "thoroughly" check him enough (I thought he was fine considering he had a upstanding day job etc.), I got saddled with a 35k receipt as the cops busted in, broke a ton of shit, cut the water, gas and power then to top it all off, he got a slap on the wrist sentence and isn't even legally obliged to pay for shit in the damages. Going after him would be a terrible idea as the drug money insures he can outspend on a lawyer and I wouldn't have even got it all back.

Second guy, was some weirdo who liked to do gaming or some shit. He rewired a ton of shit all back to one room. Violates fire codes and electrical codes. Took me 4 months to evict him and cost me thousands to fix the mess he made.

Last guy is the current tenant I am trying to evict. Guy has completely trashed he place. Was fine when he fits moved in but about a year in he started becoming stoner and headed on a downward spiral. Now I have plumbing to fix, walls and flooring to do, water damage to contend with and a couple of damaged appliances from his various shenanigans. These are two year old appliances. I have already replaced them once. We are currently 2 months into his eviction. And he intends to fight it.

2/3 tenants would call me at early morning hours (for the record I work 12 hour night shifts currently and at the time was working 14 on/14 off shifts at a camp) for bullshit requests like a plumber etc. Other times it was to cut the lawn, or get new appliances or stupid fucking shit. I would estimate I have spent between 60-75k on damages, maintenance or replacing shit over the years.

And the rent is taxable income. So I even ended up in a higher bracket and end up paying close to 43% income tax.

Once I evict this tenant, I would rather pay the empty homes tax and sit on the and speculating than rent again.

What if instead of renting- landlords were forced to share their equity with you?
