Not that I think they were at that point when they jumped but the body's reaction to extreme heat doesn't even come from the conscious brain, notice when you shove your hand in hot water it recoils before you've even processed what happened, info goes to the spinal cord and reaction comes straight back from it

Reminds me of the guys who got stuck on the wind turbine. Two older guys jumped through the fire and got down the ladder but the two who stayed on the top didn't for whatever reason. I hope if I'm ever in that situation I have the capacity to take control of my actions.

Also jumping is good and then you have already left the world behind, and that's pleasant.
