If I eat a $75 dinner with my girlfriend, that’s a 15 dollar fucking tip. For like the five to ten minutes of work she actually spent dealing with us. That’s well above minimum wage in most states, which is supposed to be for a goddamn hour. Am I supposed to believe she’s doing something behind the scenes just for us for 50-55 minutes? Bullshit.
So why am I an asshole if I tip 5 bucks for five minutes work? That’s still well above what most workers make per minute.
If you can’t afford the tip, you can’t afford to eat out. Period.

It's incredibly cheap to eat out at restaurants and the reason why is the.customer foots the bill for some of the wages instead of the company. The waitress/waiter is more inclined to act nice to work for their money rather than be guaranteed money and act rudely if they're so inclined. Also tipping 3 dollars or so on a $12 meal is not a lot but if she mores customers she gets paid more. She's inclined then to hurry her ass up to get more asses in seats. There's incentive all around and its a benchmark of our service industry, not just waitressing.

This is all a ruse to get you the consumer to subsidize their wages and make it a moral issue where you are a shitty person for not tipping them when the reality is that their employers are the shitty people who are just underpaying them to exploit your morality.
Make employers pay them minimum wage REGARDLESS and then tipping will be fine as it isn't some mandatory bullshit that only exists to fuck the consumer over. Tipping is fine as an idea for giving them extra for their great service but that is not what it currently is. Its restaurants using your morality against you.

Depending upon the establishment... At a diner, a waitress may have anywhere from 10 to 15 to 20 tables where a 5 star restaurant waiter/waitress may have anywhere from 1 to 3 tables.
The suggested mandatory tip is stated to protect the lower echelon waitresses who work more tables because they have to hump it. If you've ever worked in a restaurant you'd know. There are more bad nights than good but that one good evening that occurs once a week or every 2 weeks balances things out a bit.
What happens if you have 3 bad weeks or a month? How about a down economy where people want to dine out but penny pinch by stiffing the waitress?
If you're going to jilt on the tip you should leave a note why so they learn and it doesn't happen again. Being a prick only makes you out to be well...
Next time ask to speak with the owner, or manager. Explain to them that you could buy a steak and potato in the store for much less than what they are charging. Tell them their $75 meal could be cooked at home for only $15-20. Ask them why you're the asshole for not wanting to pay $75.

on YUGE bills where youre doing like a company dinner or something, they usually just mandate 18% into the bill. if not, crack it down to 15%, its still a lot of money.
think of it this way. if you spend $400 including drinks, 15% would be 60 bucks. did that server REALLY do $60 worth of labor in the hour and half it took for your dinner? seriously doubt it. especially if they arent standing there doting on you. if theyre helping other tables at the same time(THEY WILL BE) then they are not givng you 100% of the service
