However, looking at things from a per-capita basis the average pulmonary health of a person in the US is going to be substantially superior to a person in China due to lower smoking rates and less air pollution, on top of the US healthcare system just generally being superior to China in terms of the amount of resources per capita that could be employed for people who get ARDS. To put it in perspective, the case fatality rate for SARS was like 10%, and yet 0 Americans died out of 27 cases. Ebola is a near death sentence in sub-Saharan Africa, and yet out of eleven US patients only two died.
