JoJo music

How much did JoJo influence your music taste? Did you find some new bands, or maybe got reminded of a song that you have long forgotten? Maybe you're mad at Araki for not naming someone after latest Lil Yeet album, or maybe you just don't give a shit at all about music references. Tell us what's your opinion on the subject user

Fun fact: Araki doesn't know what lyrics of the songs he listens to most of time

*he listens to mean

He has to know at least some of them since some stands/arcs have clear references to their songs

I just want more David Bowie named stands desu. He's my favorite musician I personally think Hearts Filthy Lesson would be a good one

If part 3 stands weren't named after tarot cards I feel like Jotaro's stand would've been named Starman. Also stuff like Lazarus or even Changes would work nicely

>2020
>still not ONE Ramones reference.
still mad

None

I think I've known most of the artists referenced already so it hasn't shown me much new stuff, but it will make me go back and get into a little phase of the artist sometimes. I'm reading part 6 as of late and I've been in a Jamiroquai listening spree so uhhh thanks Weather Report Hat

I actually started listening to tons of songs cause of JoJo. Lately I picked up some Elvis Costello and Hall & Oates and they're pretty damn good

By that you mean you already knew all of the music referenced, or do you just not give a fuck about it

I don't give a HEK about it
I probably new like a few songs or bands referenced but it didnt make me care that it was referenced

You're missing out a lil bit, reading manga with referenced music in the background is great, really adds to some of the arcs

I already knew about most of the bands Araki referenced in earlier parts. I used to listen to classic rock radio stations all the time because they were the only decent radio stations near me. But there's been a lot of time where I would remember a band and decide to listen to more than just the song(s) that came on the radio because they were used in Jojo.

For the ones I didn't know about I'd usually hear them on the radio (since I have satellite radio now) before I'd decide to listen to them.

No thanks, but as long as you have fun with it

nothing really, but I bet lots of people discovered King Crimson through JoJo, which is nice
is there really not a single Bowie reference in JoJo? that's pretty odd

>is there really not a single Bowie reference in JoJo? that's pretty odd
Scary Monsters is the only one that comes to mind

Kira is one big Bowie reference, but when it comes to stands, all we have is Scary Monsters iirc

I know absolutely nothing about music, and mostly listen to amateur techno, and anime songs. This has actually put me off from starting Jojo. If I wouldn't understand any of the references, why bother?
However if someone made a playlist with all the stand songs, I would definitely listen to it. Sounds like a fun way to learn about classic music.

you really don't need to know any of the music to enjoy the series, it's just a wacky naming convention
but I'm sure there are some jojo playlists on youtube

The Jojo wiki has links to the artists' Wikipedia pages. And some references are artist names, not song names. Though I'm sure there's a playlist like that already. Yeah, here's one I found just by Googling

I believe there is a playlist with all the music references in JoJo, it has like 250+ songs. But you don't have to know the music that's referenced to enjoy the show, it's just a nice bonus, just cause some guy is named AC/DC doesn't mean you have to know all the songs from the band

Bump

I used to listen to a lot of old rock because of my father and brother.
I actually liked AC/DC, Guns and roses, Van Halen, Boston and I went to their concerts.
I listened to RHCP, santana quite a bit as well as black sabbath.
I knew about owner of the lonely hearts through Vice city (Yes).
I'm sure I'm not listing other bands .
I watched/read jojo last year, it's kind of funny to see them as fighting entities.

JoJo actually helped make Queen my favourite band. Listening to Made in Heaven during the end of Part 6 was an incredible experience.

not much, it was stuff I was already listening for the must part

Does Araki typically stick to classic rock, or has he done any nods to "newer" artists?
I'd like to see some trip hop stands, some Portishead and Massive Attack.

>company references anime

He's in no way limited to just rock, but tends to use older artists most of the time, newest referenced stuff that I can think of is Doggy Style from Snoop Dogg. There was also horse named Kanye if that counts

>「Sicko Mode」

Well it's not rock but he referenced Rihanna and Perfume songs as stands.
