How come almost all modern Isekai fantasy worlds are so goddamn generic? Basically all western fantasy writers, even the shitty ones, try to make their worlds at least somewhat unique, while Isekai worlds are almost exclusively extremely generic. Are Isekai writers inherently uncreative? Even the decent isekai series like ReZero or Log Horizon have painfully boring worlds.

Japan has a history of being incredibly loyal to their traditions and culture, even if it’s genuinely immoral or downright horrifying. So the idea that Isekai’s are a incestuos spiral of homogenized ideas that are done better by their contemporaries isn’t too far fetched.
>Are Isekai writers inherently uncreative?
yes
>decent isekai series like ReZero
>decent isekai series like ReZero
Because they all steal from Dragon Quest or each other.
Re: Zero has an incredibly fucking weird world, it's just the focus is on the characters and not on that.
Structurally it's like Rance's world except if you fall off the edge you just fucking die instead of dropping in at some random point at the top.
Most writers in general can’t make fun or interesting worlds.
Because Isekai is a gateway to success, atleast in Japan for litteraly whos. From there, authors use this "success" to work on real project or to have their names out there in the industry.
>Even the decent isekai series like ReZero
This kind of new faggotry, swear.
Japanese writers are amateur plagiarists who only know to consume tropes and shit them back out with their own spin. Web novels should never have been adapted into light novels and light novels should never be adapted into anime.
Only thing Rayearth has going for it is the cel art and girls
>Basically all western fantasy writers, even the shitty ones, try to make their worlds at least somewhat unique
I wouldn't call copying Lord of the Rings somewhat unique.
but it's the same generic tolkienesque western mmorpg fantasy world; while something like Dorohedoro's world has unique aesthetic and features, I even forget that it's technically a fantasy setting
I think most isekai authors are just amateurs who write light/web novels for fun
The amount of cute girls in isekai matters more than the world itself.
Isekai genre is popular because the writers aren't creative. They're otaku themselves so they just copy the things they like, creating an endless cycle of overused, uncreative tropes
It's not a problem exclusive to Isekai novels, it's a problem for genre fiction in general.
Elves aside, who basically don't exist in the setting anyway, it doesn't have any of the tolkien races. It also doesn't resemble LotR in political or national organization. It also has zero game elements, nobody has levels, nobody has stats.
If we had just invaded and occupied Japan we could have forced them to read western literature and they would have good taste. This didn't have to happen.
these worlds need plague victims crawling elegantly
>but it's the same generic tolkienesque western mmorpg fantasy world
No isekai setting is like Tolkien. Tokien is closer to the real world with fantasy elements, racial parallels and Bible myths as historical fact.
What you're thinking of is JRPG setting.
Shut up Nurgle
Most Isekai writers struggle with world building, none of their worlds seem unique or real but like the stage of a play only there to be in the background.
When I watch isekai I get the sensation I'm playing a classic JRPG like Final Fantasy VI. It's probably to evoke that kind of aesthetic, like you're playing a classic video game but all the NPCs are RPing properly.
>Are Isekai writers inherently uncreative?
Yes.
What would happen if a isekai light novelist wrote an Conan the Barbarian or Warhammer Fantasy/40K story?
But how does that work? You are then "known" for a shitty generic isekai. How does that convince anyone of your ability as an author?
The Silmarillion is absolutely anime.
FFVI's world is somewhat interesting though. Most fantasy anime settings are just Dragon Quest clones
A generic JRPG setting was inspired by Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy. Those games were inspired by Ultima and Wizardry. Both of those series were heavily inspired by The Lord of the Rings with some sci-fi elements. So technically Tolkien influenced everything.
>decent isekai series like ReZero
Based Sataniaposter.
How come these threads are so generic?
