Isn't the whole reason why this reboot exists is cause Takaya wanted an anime completely faithful to the manga? Wasn't that her whole problem with 01, especially their softening of Shigure? How did they manage to get her to approve of these changes?

I was partially joking, but they're probably showing that scene later on, they also removed that girl back from their HS days and Hatori getting mad at him.

A character like Shigure is too wild for nowadays shoujo MCs indeed though (because he IS a male main character in the series just like Yuki and Kyo), just like you wouldn't get a character like Rei from Oniisama E who was abused by her sister and used drugs to cope with it. See how Go Nagai series are too wild for nowadays JUMP series even if they were considered shounen as well.

Like I said though, Shigure doesn't even do anything that bad. He's kindergarten level compared to guys like Rei or the leads from MARS and Kare Kano. The worst he ever does is motherfucking, yet even that was just in retaliation to being NTRed.

What about him besides that is so triggering?

Because he's not a good guy, but then he's also not a bad guy either. Things just change, not only western twitterinas sensibilities but what manga magazines accept or don't nowadays.

It's not like Hana to Yume (the magazine that Furuba ran is) is like Nakayoshi or Ribon. It was never aimed at little girls, more middle and high school girls.

DEEN had more SOUL

Hana to Yume is a pretty good magazine as far mainstream shoujo magazines go, they have room for variety but still not an adult oriented magazine. Even Ribbon or Nakayoshi's older titles were also much less tame than the stuff we get nowadays.

That being said, I am making a broad statement about mainstream content, even if standards definitely changed there's still dozens shoujo magazines and shoujo is an enormous demographic, you still can find about everything if you look for it.
