I lost my manga backlog of over 200+ titles today

I lost my manga backlog of over 200+ titles today.
It was just a simple notepad .txt, and it just went and disappeared from my desktop.
I've got no clue if I accidentally put it in my recycle bin and deleted it, or if it's still on my system.
What the fuck do I do?

Use your brain.

Not worth watching if not worth remembering.

>tfw you clear your backlog
You did it. You're free.

this is when you realize you'll be fine without 90% of the titles. Because the same thing happened to me too, when I was overzealous cleaning up my Downloads folder one day.

switch to mal and hope you remember

>not having a backup of important files
Before writing more data on your HDD try something like recueva.

Face it, you were never, ever going to read any of them anyway.

It's a divine intervention to get a different hobby

Go to your search bar and type in the file’s name. If there are no results download a free recovery software. Computer truly delete stuff by writing over it. As long as it’s recent you can recover the file.

Windows or Linux?

I was gonna read some of them.
Recueva crashes on scan, so I've had to use other software.
It's within the past 24 hours.
Windows.

I know windows lets you rollback your computer to earlier days when it made a scan. I don't remember if that includes files though. You might want to look into that.

use the search bar my dude.
otherwise you could manually use the search bar for all the .txt files on your computer.

also that's why you ALWAYS use 2 HDD's backups or at least putting everything in favorites on Mangafox (because the fox has been undefeated for over 10 years)

there's no "time limit" of a recovery file as long as you don't use your PC too much, otherwise it will write datas on top of the older deleted datas (which will then be either fragmented or wiped out).
you still have a chance OP.

Stop using whatever disk it was on. Every write to the disk is one more chance it will be permanently overwritten.

That's only if you have it on yes, in hindsight I'm retarded.
I've tried searching for it, but I haven't been able to find it.
Neither among existing files, or deleted files.
I'm aware of how it basically works.
The file was literally stored on my system desktop and the system is installed on an SSD.

You're free.

YOU'RE FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

this

If you've watched NGE you may have heard near the end that absolute freedom is not necessarily a good thing. We need boundaries to define our options.
Having no backlog means you have nothing to watch.
He's not free. He's bored.

tried searching just part of the name, like if it was named :
"anime backlog"
search for
"anime" or "backlog" or "ani"
maybe you have accidentaly did a copy of the file and it changed it's name.

otherwise it might be because of your SSD, depending of how old it is.
yes, SSD's can lose datas contrary to HDD's, you should never put anything else than Windows or games on it.

otherwise here's some Windows recovery tips, scroll down and ignore the tips about downloading a program, try some of those but before doing it : BACK UP YOUR FILES.

Why would you search for the filename? Windows has allowed you to search based on file contents for well over 10 years

If you remember even a single entry or phrase in the text file then rebuild your index with file contents enabled and then just search for the text you remember
If you don't know how to do that this walks you through it:

Seeing as folks already suggested recovery soft I'll give you my second suggestion: forget about it. God offered to liberate you of your backlog by arranging for this coincidence - I say, take Him up on this offer. Read manga organically from now on, without turning it into a chore.

filename search is way faster, content search is when you forgot about the filename.

personally i have 1.5TB of animes and 1.6TB of other datas, i can't imagine doing anything else than filename search or it would take days.
content search might help OP though, if he remembers what he put inside ofc.

I first assumed it was because it was lost, and not deleted somehow, but I haven't been able to find it through the search function.
So I tried rebuilding the index and looking for it that way but without luck.
Recovery soft haven't been able to find it either despite being able to find trash from a year ago, so I'm assuming it's lost forever.

are you sure you haven't deleted the filename and accidentaly changed it ?
it happened to me already.
that or your SSD deleted it, if it's the case it's forever lost, sorry OP.

lol

I can still find data from 10 years ago, even though i always save and delete new files. Windows is weird.
But the ONE file i tried to find once i couldn't find with any free recovery software for whatever reason

What's the point of keeping a backlog if you liked one of the mangas but suffering at the same time, anxious and waiting for the next chapter to be released?

get an SSD they said
it only sometimes loses data but it's way faster they said
bullshit this is what it feels like, all of that speed retroactively feels like nothing

Use voidtools's Everything

If you care so little about it that you can't remember it without a written list, then it's no big loss, right? If you want a new manga to read, just search for popular manga and see which you recognize as "oh yeah, I put that on my now-deleted list"
