3-gatsu

So I’m at episode 14 of the first season and HOLY FUCK CAN THE PLOT PLEASE PROGRESS. It’s nothing but constant flashbacks, derailing humor, side-plots that don’t progress the story, and don’t get me started on the shogi-cats. Every time it feels like it’s starting to develop the main plot it just drops it. Can I just skip to the second season when it supposedly gets good?

I dropped because of what you are experiencing. It just keeps dragging.

Another thing that bothered me about the show is that the shogi could be better presented. If Chihayafuru can make a game exciting, why can't this one do that too?

>Watching Paint Dry: The Anime

Glad I’m not the only one. I don’t know how retards here think this is a better drama than Clannad After Story. I’ll have to check out Chihayafuru.

>Calls people retarded
>Likes Clannad

Problem with the show is the director. He seems to think beating you in the head with how you're supposed to feel bad for the MC is supposed to make you care more for him the more he does it. Oh, and here's shogi cats or some cutaway to his adopted family in case he overdoes it. Repeat ad nauseum.

First time watching a character driven show? Stop expecting plot to happen in a show that is obviously built around getting to know characters. The plot is shogi and depression. That's it, and don't expect more. Just enjoy the chatacters.

That's life!

Your Lie In April is even worse. Just constantly repeating the same shit over and over until everything feels so forced and overly dramatic. It's like they think the viewer is from another planet and is incapable of understanding how human emotions work and has to be spoonfed their internal monologue every 5 minutes. 3-gatsu at least has a couple of likeable characters and some sweet moments, YLIA is legitimately the worst anime I have ever watched

>t. filtered shonenshitters
Unless you’re a retard with ADHD, the show progresses at a pretty decent pace. It’s meant to be visually heavy and with a gradual development rather than hamfisting drama or action everywhere.

Watch chess animation

>the plot is built around character development
The problem is they never fucking develop his character in a serious way. Every time they are going to explore his past they drop it for a gag or side-story totally unrelated to his own development. If you want two anime with incredible character development look at Steins;Gate and Clannad After Story.

It doesn't pick up. The manga is even worse since it's monthly and the author is obsessed with cooking chapters.
It's an adaptation, whoever directed it is just following the manga.

>binge the entire manga
>watch whichever part you would like to see animated.
There you go, i solved your problem.

I hate both, but so far I hate YLIA less. I’m biased though cause I love piano. Otherwise I would hate it just as much.

>incredible character development look at Steins;Gate
Is this bait

No it’s common sense.

This is basically the show that had me seriously question normalfag tastes. Like what the fuck, how does this meandering and tonally deaf shit have nearly an 8.5? Second season over a 9?

But aren't normalfags the ones complaining about how slow it is and calling Steins;Gate good

>incredible character development
>Steins;Gate
Picking up 3gatsu. Thanks for helping me decide, user

Is this show better than Steins;Gate in your estimation? If so why?

Rei’s past is developed well-enough in a subtle manner throughout the show. If you can’t tell by episode 20, all of his family background and personal history, you’re a brainlet. If you also think that he doesn’t grow as a character, I suggest you rewatch it. Simple as that. I cannot conceive how you would think Rei of the season finale is the same Rei as episode 1. Its funny that you raise Clannad and Steins;Gate as it clearly shows how new you are to anime. The former is a forced melodramatic harem-cum-tearjerker. The latter has Okabe grow very little compared to Rei as a person.

You can hate Steins;Gate but trust me you’re going to hate 3-gaytsu more

There is no fucking plot. It's a slice of life, character driven drama masquerading as a shogi anime. The shogi games themselves aren't that interesting, but it's the people behind the shogi games and what they stand to gain or lose, emotionally and mentally. It's also about watching Rei Kiriyama grow as a person and watching his relationships flourish with the absolutely fantastic supporting cast. This is all very simple shit I shouldn't even have to explain because the show speaks for itself. I'd say at least finish the first season, but don't go further because it's clearly not for you in the slightest.

>Clannad is a harem
Don’t talk about things you haven’t seen user.

Steins;Gate requires you to care about the characters and every character is just a very one-dimensional meme (fat retard, autist who can't do anything besides "tuturu," the cat maid, the trap, etc) with the exception of Okabe. Even then, half of Okabe is just being a meme

>trust me
Never.

>can I just skip to the second season when it supposedly gets good
bro if you don't care about the show right now just stop watching it. the most you'll probably get out of S2 is the bully arc but that shit really doesn't matter unless you actually care about the show and characters.

If the show wanted to focus on Rei’s progression then they shouldn’t constantly cut away from the time they spend developing him. It seem like they have an overemphasis on building the supporting cast when really you just want to learn more about Rei.

Comparing it to Steins;Gate is already retarded and indicates just how much of an autist you are. One is a plot-driven adventure within an otaku contest with archetypal characters and tearjerking moments. The other is a gradual character-driven show which mixes character exploration and tension with lighthearted SoL-esque moments. Stop being a faggot and just stop watching if this type of story is not for you.

such abysmal taste

Clannad: After Story is also a gradual character-driven show that mixes character exploration and tension with SOL moments. The difference is the SOL moments in Clannad don’t completely derail the plot progression. Significant events that drive the plot/character progression forward happen every episode, and the same can’t be said for 3-gatsu.

>Clannad isn’t a harem
Are you retarded? Before the Nagisa storyline kicks off, which really only happens in After Story, because of the way it was adapted, Clannad literally consists of Okazaki being surrounded by a bunch of women who want his cock and each route focuses on helping out one of them out. The only relevant male character (Nagisa’s dad who only becomes relevant later on) is typical harem gag character Sunohara.

>finaly an anime with substance
>people get filtered instantly

>problem with the show is that it fleshes out its side characters rather than being a masturbatory narrative of its main character

>which really only happens in After Story
>After Story
Retard I have been referring to it as After Story this whole thread! Yeah of course everyone knows S1 is mediocre at best but After Story is really an incredible work of art and you’re so blinded by contrarianism you can’t see it. Sad really.

Sangatsu is only divisive because you either find the side cast colorful and charming or annoying as fuck.

That’s kinda like saying stories don’t require a protagonist to focus on. The side characters get attention from the side by definition, they shouldn’t be the fucking focus more than half the time.

This. Also an anime about a guy working with his hands at a dead-end blue collar job in a dying town but still managing to find hope in his life with his wife and kid is far more interesting than some emo teen with family issues who can't recognize and appreciate how good of a life he's got. What a loser.

That actually might be my problem. Thanks user. Most constructive response this thread.

ABSOLUTELY BASED

Early After Story is still a harem. Also, you imply that I dislike After Story which is not the case at all. Just think its retarded to compare it to 3-gatsu or to hail it as fantastic when its thoroughly lacking in many parts. But at this point I’m pretty sure you’re just baiting, not sure why bother replying.

I liked the loli

Not baiting at all. If I didn’t feel so strongly about After Story I wouldn’t be responding. Kinda like how you can’t help but defend 3-gatsu.

Same fagging, but I forgot to mention that an anime doesn’t need to be literal perfection to be fantastic. Clannad After Story is lacking in some areas to be sure and I’ll be he first to call them out, but that doesn’t mean I can’t sing it’s very very obvious praises.
