Yes, and it went no where and they said she was trying to get with him to feel more mature.

They said it was to show he was stuck in the past and said they wanted to overlap the scene of Tomoe falling downwards while Barnaby jumped up to snap him back into the present; the theme of the series and the manga is to keep on moving forward.
Not everything is about shipping, I'm just pointing out how they have been selling the series as a franchise over the last nine years.
