Naruto's elemental chakra system was really good but it was scrapped in favor of bullshit op jutsu like Susanoo and Edo Tensei, or buffed to hell like Hashirama's wood release. Even Darui's storm release seemed like too much and wouldn't have had its place in part one.

It takes A WHILE to get good. Like the third arc called York New is when there are actual stakes, an actual plot other than "let's be hunters!" cool villains, etc.
There is some good shit to be found before that, but it can be hard to stick with.
