It's over, KyoAni is dead.

Too soon.

No one?

>Movie comes out
>Doesn't even have a big enough impact to start a revival in Japan
What a fucking waste.

The movie was kind of shit except for the MC and the parts they got directly from the manga.

Pretty much. 20 years of buildup for basically nothing, thanks Cameron.

Cameron got filtered.
>Rosa Salazar interview:
>James told me something really interesting. He said, “When I went to Japan to discuss with Yukito Kishiro possibly acquiring the rights back in the ’90s,” … He’s sitting there in Yukito Kishiro’s art studio and he’s going on and on in that Jim way, super emphatic about the story. He’s like, “Here’s how I see her. Here’s what I want to make. I want to make the story of Joan of Arc. She’s just this badass woman leading …” Kishiro was like, “No. No. No.” He’s like, “No, I see her as Joan of Arc,” and Kishiro goes, “She’s a Ronin”

How the fuck could Cameron relate Gally with Joan of Arc of all people? It's just because they are... both women? it doesn't make sense.

>revival

It's still going.

>go to watch movie in theatre after waiting like 27 years for it
>they ruin the definitive scene by having her cut dude in half with a sword instead of her hand

0/10 demanded my money back pissed all over the theatre threw feces at the manager

They tried to cram 4 volumes worth into one movie. It was doomed from the start because they had to get to motor ball.

they should have just done the original OVA. it was one of the things i first loved about anime, i frst saw it on VHS in like 1993...

I'd have liked a more accurate to the manga approach myself. Just do a nice simple down to earth story were she has to save a baby in a sewer from a killer aborted fetus man.

Ultimately I'd just love to see the Tuned arc adapted

i've actually never read the mango even though the anime is one of the most relevant all-time to my love of animu

You should read it. Last Order goes a bit retarded but the entire first series is a nice 9 or so volume saga. Really gets more room to breath and there's a really nice passage of time as the series watches her grow up.

okay I'll read it

let me ask here casue im drunk and mods will ban me if i make a thread

does anyone know the recent manga about a mangaka who gets disillusioned with manga and divorces his wife and goes to a beautiful young prostitute and then at the end he realizes the manga he makes the he despises is important to people

Nobody in Hollywood these days is macho enough to play Figure Four.

I meant like it being a vehicle for a new anime or some video games or something.

So it is. Interesting. Still weird we never saw a proper full length anime though. Every other shit manga gets one.

I'd have at the very least liked a decent non movie figure.

Patrick Stewart.

no

Japan stopped caring for cyberpunk shit years ago.

basically this. No matter what differences there were, the most important flaw is that it's way too many plot lines into a single movie. And I'm pretty sure half of it was so they could introduce Nova in some way in order to give people a reason to expect a sequel. It should have ended on Hugo falling to his death. Like cuts to black right when he falls.

Far too many franchises expect a squeal before they really earned it. You don't have to introduce Nova for a long time and if the movie stands on it's own and does well you can easily get a sequel made as we build up to it.

Same. I'd like a reissue of that one LO figure at some point.

Yeah but every so often you still get stuff like that, like Koukaku no Pandora.

That kind of explains a lot about the movie though. Cameron gave a crazy amount of notes to the guy that ended up making the movie and changing her from a ronin to cyberpunk Joan of Arc does explain some of the differences. The movie was really building her up to be a hero that would save the people from Nova's oppression, a savior of the people. And the berserker armor was basically a gift from god in the movie with how only she could get into the ship, but it just being in Ido's basement was kind of dumb anyways.

Cameron is probably more familiar with Joan of Arc than Ronin. And latched more onto the idea of a woman kicking ass being related to her than her just being another ronin

Watch the old OVA.

That's why we got three seasons of Psycho Pass (+films) and endless iterations of GITS, right?
