The manga is fanfiction-tier garbage that literally couldn't miss the point of the series harder if it tried.
But it has fight scenes, so it can appeal to the shounen-niggers that wouldn't read/wtach the actual story, so I guess it makes sense as a cashgrab.

Shaft pretty blatantly has favoritism towards certain characters, throughout Bake most characters got scenes cut out (Monkey being the most blatant example like you said) except for Crab who got additional scenes added
