Going through Macross Frontier at the moment, nearing the end. Songs are great. How's SDF Macross?

It's great. I highly recommend it.
Dubs compel me to reply: That's good news since I'm getting that empty feeling from ending an anime.
Watching SDF after Frontier will make you go "ooh so that's what that was about then" multiple times.
Watch Macross 7 after SDF. Note though that people either absolutely love or despise that show. I love it
>nearing the end.
Don't forget to watch 2 movies afterwards. They fix tons of issues with plot and characters like Ranka or Alto.
Ehh you can watch them, but not everyone prefer the movies. I greatly prever the TV show, and I was also warned against the movies by someone else (who I obviously ended up agreeing with).
So many people seem to prefer the movies that it can't hurt to give them a try, but you should be prepared that you MAY end up prefering the TV show. Don't hype yourself up for something that blows the TV show out of the water, that may leave you disappointed.
Better, but older obv, and basically a different genre.
Does Basara ever stop singing Planet Dance. 17 episodes in and it starts to be annoying. Minmei was a bitch but she at least wasn't an autist like him
I have a shitton of grievances regarding Alto and Ranka; the affections between them feel incredibly forced. Glad to know the films might rectify some shit.
>basically a different genre.
Not so different actually. SDF is a bit more cheesy but the general tone feels the same.
>SDF
the best thing in the franchise, the animation gets wonky at times but they handled the characters well.
I dropped frontier. and forced to sit myself through 7 because of gamlin.
I thought they felt really different. SDF feels like it's "objectively better". Part of it is the deeper characters, it also has better comedy, and overall the focus is just really different. SDF feels like something "classically good".
I also really love Frontier, perhaps more than SDF, but for different reasons. Frontier has really boring battle scenes, but what makes it great is all the great moments. You also have some excellent worldbuilding, some of the greater I've seen in anime. And I overall liked Ranka and her story about becoming an idol.
>animation gets wonky at times
Whenever there was a shot with crowd in it I almost always was laughing because people there were looking like they were drawn in ms paint by some part-time workers. Other than that I looks quite decent and I expected it to look way worse considering its release date
The usage of planet dance actually does decrease significantly in the second half
There was one episode where the animation was very bad, so bad I think I laughed at it. And supposedly it was an improvement from the TV broadcast?
Planet Dance is pretty consistent throughout but as more songs are introduced it gets played less.
It will go away for a while and you'll start to miss it

MAAACUUUROSS
Remember when military actually got shit done in Macross?
Is it alright to just jump straight into Macross Delta without having watched any other Macross? "DELTA", mind you.
Why would you want to watch the worst one the most?
The last good Macross.
Don't watch Delta.
SDF was a lot more classic scifi, it might have popularised cross-genre idol/waifus, but the core story is classic scifi.
I like Frontier too, but the scifi is just used as a setting and the ideas explored is much more cliched.
But why?
>Delta
A fucking coma would be a better experience than that.
More like fagcross
Just watch DYRL.
Suprised no one has mentioned Plus, which also a must watch in my view.
>he doesn't watch shows in airing order
Just stop.
Don't do this.
DYRL look great but doesn't really do the story justice.
Doesn't apply to major franchises with multiple entry points.
