Why do so many people refuse to watch the original Gundam? Is it "dated"?
Why do so many people refuse to watch the original Gundam? Is it "dated"?
pretty much yeah
People aren’t used to shows with over 20 episodes these days
>People aren’t used to shows with over 20 episodes these days
Aren't most anime 24 episodes now, or am I really that out of touch?
They don't know anime existed before 1995
>Anime started with Evangelion in 1995
STOP
Anime started with Cowboy Bebop in 2001
I get bored of filler and stupid bullshit really quickly. I watched the 0079 movies but I doubt I would've made it through 50 or so episodes of it.
Specifically with older anime, 70s and early 80s the animation is usually not very good and the whole reason I watch anime is because I like animation. I've watched all TV anime from the 70s that had less than 30 episodes and even some of them were brutal to get through. The only ones that were easy were Green Jacket Lupin and Future Boy Conan.
It is indeed
Its too quirky because of Tominos autism
>70s and early 80s the animation is usually not very good
are you serious? Am I just an idiot? Lots of 70s anime I've been watching look pretty good. Maybe I just have low standards.
>Tominos autism
>Not wanting all your main characters to constantly fuck & kill people
In a wartime situation that would totally happen. It's fucked up but it's realistic. Tomino has no reservations about portraying people in an unfiltered light. He's the only one who caters to my mecha mommy fetish.
>constantly fuck
When have characters ever fucked in a Tomino show
For it's time a lot of it was great, so no you're fine. To clarify, IMO a lot of animation wasn't great on TV in the 70s compared to the modern standards I am used to. The ART was fine but besides stuff put out by Miyazaki and Takahata, none of the animation really impresses me or can keep me interested in the meandering pace of most of those old shows.
>meandering pace of most of those old shows.
I take it you hate Galaxy Express 999 then. A lot of those 70s & even 80s shows never really had an overarching plot.
I enjoyed it’s dub all the way through. Fraw’s constant “Amuro!”s coulda used some work but other than that it was pretty alright
I've watched, but the pacing is atrocious.
It has way too many attack of the week episodes and most of the actual plot points that come back in other gundams, including char's characterization, are all in the last 7-8 episodes.
Z was such a massive improvement, loved it.
>or am I really that out of touch?
pretty much, also it's the exception not the rule
I tried it but I just wasn't feeling it. Don't think it's the age, I think it's Tomino.
what's the general length of an anime now? Half that? 12 episodes?
That's another series where I decided to watch the movie, which I did enjoy and the weird Rintaro follow up.
I watched a lot of the shorter Leiji-verse stuff. Yamato, Harlock, SSX, Arcadia. Gonna revisit it at some point.
Honestly, SDF macross is a couple of years older and it's more enjoyable, so it's definitely Tomino.
Stuff like Mirai's romantic subplot is so fucking retarded.
>I enjoyed it’s dub
you have to go back
0079 (TV), ZZ and Victory are pleb filters while Zeta and especially CCA are vastly overrated.
Go build an igloo.
unironically my favorite Gundam series
I love original Gundam, but even I know it looks fugly for it's age.
ZZ just has a ton of legit shit and unfunny episodes.
Victory is great.
CCA I agree is overrated because Quess is an annoying piece of shit and half of the movie revolves around her.
>watching toy advertisements
>Watching light novel advertisements
>watching manga advertisements
Come on man, almost every anime this season is advertising SOMETHING.
Because the Robot Romance Trilogy is better.
