Shingeki no Kyojin

So it's pretty much agreed upon that Annie is faking all the regret she had in privacy and that she is an actual psychopath?

Ok when we saw glimpses of Annie's past I felt some sympathy for her. I was still angry at her for ruthlessly killing so many scouts and the whole of Levi squad, but when I saw her flashbacks I felt a little bad for her. She was even crying so I thought she legit felt guilty for what she'd done.

When the rest of the story about Marley was revealed in Season 3 part 2 I THOUGHT I had a pretty good idea of what happened.

I imagined that Annie did all this because her whole family was taken hostage by Marley. She was just a 12 year old girl who did what she had to, so she could protect her family. She was so young so maybe she didn't realise what she'd done.

So fast forward to now. When she was released from her crystal, the first person she met was Hitch. Hitch asked her what she felt about all those people she killed, I thought she would feel guilty like Reiner.

But no, what did she say? She made an excuse that she was brainwashed , that the Marleyans taught her that killing civilians was fine as long as it was for saving the world and atoning for Eldia. But we KNOW for a fact that Annie NEVER believed Marley's bullshit propaganda, even as a kid. She just wanted a good life with her father, her next lines make it quite clear.

She NEVER cared about things like saving the world, or anything for that matter. All her life she trained with her abusive father, who wanted the honor and riches associated with being the parent of a warrior. BUT the day she was departing, suddenly he felt guilty and told her to come back, and Annie decided his lifetime of abuse was forgiven and he was a good guy. (Basically Stockholm syndrome). So Annie chose to kill millions of people, just so she could live with him happily.

But all these things make Annie selfish, not a hypocrite, so what gives?

Go back

This is what made me angry at her.

At the fireplace, where everyone was deciding what to do with Eren. Mikasa and gang thought that they could talk Eren out of it.

But Annie? She never gave him a chance. She asked everyone if they were prepared to kill Eren. She starred painting Eren as the bad guy commuting genocide, even though that's exactly what she did.

Now that HER hometown and her father's life was on line, suddenly she started caring about genocide and saving the world.

And what did Annie say to Mikasa? "That's it, after all isn't it, Mikasa" , "Because you probably have never thought of anything being more important than Eren".

THIS is where I lost my mind. ANNIE OF ALL PEOPLE? SHE'S THE ONE WHO COULDN'T THINK THAT THE LIFE OF MILLIONS OF PEOPLE INSIDE THE WALL WAS LESS IMPORTANT THAN HER FATHER. NOW'S SHE'S GOT THE GALL TO LECTURE MIKASA ABOUT IT? When did she get the moral high ground?

Both of them are quite alike, both love one man in their lives very much, so much that they wouldn't mind killing others to save that one man.

I'm seriously pissed at Annie. Annie just said in the previous that she would COMMIT GENOCIDE AGAIN to SAVE HER FATHER, but now she's claiming moral superiority now that HER father is in danger. Now she's urging MIKASA to kill Eren?

How? Why? She's a fucking hypocrite and a bitch. I fucking hate her now.

English is not my first language and I'm on mobile now so please forgive me if the mistakes made it hard to read, but I just wanted to rant somewhere about it.

When Isayama drew the panel of Annie squishing that bug for no reason with a blank face, I thought I finally understood her character. Isayama was trying to show deep down she was a sociopath (in a sense) with no empathy. She could squish a human (see Trost arc) just as easily as a bug. It is no different to her.

...But then there are earlier panels with her crying at her actions. And it isn't like those tears were for show or anything. She even cried alone. So I guess she is empathetic....but she chooses to simply move forward anyway, regardless of the "sins" she commits? All for one goal, seeing her father again. I guess she is like Eren in a way. But honestly, Eren comes across less cold than Annie when just dealing with people. Differences in childhood experiences I guess.

IDK what to make of Annie. She does seem hypocritical, especially with Mikasa, but I guess if you consider that all of her actions are for her one goal in life, it makes sense to be "hypocritical" if it gets you what you want. Lie, Kill, Cheat, Steal, doesn't matter.

I still don't get Annie waifufags. Besides her simply being a girl, which I guess is enough for some people, she is really unlikeable. And unlike Reiner, she doesn't repeatedly get pushed down by the story to show the err of her ways. If the plot pushed back more against her behaviors to shine light on her misgivings, maybe she'd be more likeable. But she gets away with everything without real hate or punishment from the others.

Her ruthlessness in the scout fight could be the result of her trying to feel power over other human beings after so long being powerless in marley

>Annie is faking all the regret she had in privacy
The fuck?

That doesn't make her any better

Why does this almost sound identical to the endeavor hate thread?

Is it really hard to believe? It's a person who killed millions in the most gruesome ways to get to her father

No, it was just wanting to get back to her abusive dad

>Hange went from mad scientist to gandhi
What happened to this manga?

>It's a person who killed millions in the most gruesome ways to get to her father
And having no regrets about it, mind you. No, acknowledging that she did terrible things isn't regret.

The requirement for Ymir to be reborn is for all of the 9 titans to die at once and be reincarnated into one special baby.

If Ymir isn't given any attention up to this point then she can't be that central to the plot.

Reminder that Zeke replaced Ymir in the path dimension and built Reiner and Annie's titans

Ahhhhh Isayama wasted half a chapter giving a backstory to a character he froze like 90 chapters ago and didn't know what do with

>Manletwhales still seething.

Most of it wasn’t even new information, especially if you had read/watched Lost Girls

It's a really underwhelming backstory compared to all the mystery surrounding Annie's dad and his speech to her when she first froze herself. Even the theories about him being an Eldian restorationist after learning all about the world outside the walls were more interesting that this huge load of nothing.

What if next chapter is a Reiner chapter lol.

Then it might actually be a good one

who will beat him up this time?

based

Reiner chapters are only good if Eren’s around as well (like everything post-timeskip) so no

>*Climax TnJ fails to reach Shitren's demented mind*

>Mikasa:Ereh I'll never stop lov-

>GESUmin: *Point black shoots Mikasa (in the heart for kino symbolism) out of nowhere*

>Bitchren: (Goes into pathetic crying hysterics and starts losing control of his shifter powers including the FT) "T-THIS I-SN'T WHAT I S-SAW"!!!!

>Armin: This world is just that cruel huh....*proceeds to activate his nuke* (insert based Apple seed OST here)

93 and 94 were really good and they had nearly no Eren in them

Stay strong EHsis

Reiner chapters in Marley were kino long before Eren showed up.

96 dragged on a bit with a lot of stuff we had already seen but it had some really good character moments for Reiner

Ghandi didn't betray his own people are killed or was complacent in the deaths of his countrymen in order protect a warped sense of loyalty.
