I still don't understand the point of this attack. Is it to lure the opponent into a sense of complacency? Seems to me like a direct fire attack would do just as much damage and move faster too.

I don't think he's forgotten, sabo hasn't had any time to train with the fruit. There was also no green color in the manga.
