Why do people bemoan "Western influence" in Japanese media so much. Japan thrives on taking inspiration from the West. Unless it's something like Shigurui or Sword of the Stranger, your favourite anime is probably full of Western influences.
Everything mecha and sci-fi originated in the West. Japan didn't suddenly come up with that in the 60s and 70s.
Everything fantasy, Western origin.
Think of something like Gunsmith Cats, you're gonna tell me that's not influenced by American action movies?
It goes from character and setting designs to music and story.
We need MORE Western influence in anime
I feel like as long as somebody is there to constantly remind the studios that the far left does not represent their audience the worst that will happen from western pandering is an increase in pointless sex scenes
and for certain series that might be a good thing
I don't understand the point of your post. You claim anime needs western influence, but then go onto say most anime is already full of western influence. It's as if you're just trying to bait shounentards into bitching about SJW nutjobs or something.
Because taking inspiration from the West is not at all the same thing as Western influence you drooling retard.
You're an idiot, globalism is for worthless scum that have no character of their own. I don't need to read a manga to learn about Christian mythology just as I'm not going to watch some Hollywood movie to learn about samurai. Also Western civilization is in its last gasps and just thrashing about to take down as many people as possible with it, there's no reason for Japan to suicide themselves just yet. They can wait a couple decades and just pick out the good stuff from an extinct civilization just as the West did with every civilization it took from.
tl;dr
I just think it's weird how adversed people are to Japanese taking Western influences when the thing they already love is so full of it already.
Semantics.
Shut up, globalism is cool as fuck.
Also, for the record, most of the stuff you think of as the West is just watered-down stuff that some kike stole from some actual culture to pacify mutts with. Imagine thinking "action movies" symbolize the West.
Not reading. Kill yourself.
End your fucking life, retard.
They don't want Westerners or their culture influencing it, nobody is actually talking about guns or angels not being allowed in Japanese media. This strawman is so flimsy that we can all see your hook nose through it.
Quack!
>Semantics
No, it's entirely different. One is Japanese people picking things they like from other cultures and putting them in Japanese products. The other is foreigners getting Japanese people to make Western products with a Japanese gloss. Pull vs push.
Any poster who even mention the west here on Yas Forums are drooling retards from Yas Forums or Yas Forums you should ignore.
None of them would ever recognize the fact that countless anime & manga directly ripoff classic western literature. Pic related, it's one of many manga that plagiarizer The Count of Monte Cristo. They only come here to complain about stupid off-topic shit not related to anime.
POWER RANGERS? MORE LIKE SUPER SENTAI
Or soul vs soulless. Imagine equating some inspired creative combining the influences they enjoy into a genuine piece of art to some corporate scum and plebeian filth enslaving Japanese people to churn out the same garbage the rest of the world already has plenty of.
The thing is when people say the West in this context (and most contexts honestly), they are talking about Burgers. In which case Burgers stole that stuff too, nobody is worried about Frenchies influencing manga.
just posting itt because i saw haibane renmei posted
There is also a MONUMENTAL difference between influence from the past and living people. All those classic books are by dead people from a better time. Even things like classic music, comics or films where it's more hit-or-miss on whether the people are still alive, the stuff was released in an acceptable era to take influence from (the past) and people in the West also take influence from it because it was before their birth. By this point all this stuff is multiple generations from its source. Just because Disney stole some fairytale and then Tezuka drew it and then Tezuka inspired people who inspired other people who inspired other people, etc. doesn't mean the modern mangaka has any knowledge of the fairytale. There's certainly many influences in everyday life that date back hundreds if not thousands of years and most people don't know anything about their origins. Japan is one of the oldest and only nations to still prosper in the modern world, they are more likely to be mined by the West as an influence than need to draw from some other well. If they've already historically taken influence that has been absorbed, it's part of their well and doesn't require taking further influence. What is this mythical great thing they need to take that they didn't already? Everyone who calls for them to be colonized with "Western influence" like OP just wants them to be more sensitive to the feelings of retards.
>western cultural influence in anime
broke
>western philosophical influence in anime
woke
I don't disagree, but Haibane Renmei is a poor example, since it has much more Buddhist influence than Christian.
>b-b-but my angel look
It doesn't really favor any religion in my opinion and was more about accepting death with the Haibane basically being in a purgatory but everyone has a completely different take on that fucking show.
Haibane Renmei is a bad example because it's based on a japanese book.
Creators in general should seek inspiration from something other than anime or manga desu.
>your favourite anime is probably full of Western influences
CGDCT make up a lot of my favourite anime and I don't think there's much media outside of Japan to influence that beyond references to a few old stories like the Match Girl that occasionally turn up. It barely seems to have any influence on the character and comedy types those types of series have, which along with being cute is the main focus of them.
/this
It is precisely this shitty American fanboy/otaku understanding of "cultural influence" (cultural colonization) that is the reason why no one wants this stupid fucking "Western influence" in anime/manga. Equating Western culture with American action movies and Tolkienian fantasy, fucking Christ. You might as well say "Eastern culture" is nothing but samurai, ninjas, emperors, and women in kimonos, fucking tard.
yeah but with the good will come woke anime and diverse anime.
THE witxher anime when
What if I told you that philosophy is influenced by culture, user?
taking inspiration != being influenced
