That's only because you gravitate towards games which don't have self-inserts and ignore the ones which do. How many idol games outside of im@s do you even know have a self-insert?

Looking through the character descriptions it did seem that way, with most of them only talking about getting into it due to another member of the unit.
With the amount of units they have we'll have to see how they try and fit it into an anime. Both this and Re:Lights have a pretty big cast so I assume some are going to get very little screentime. Like with Re:Stage it'll be a shame if some great characters turn up and only get a few minutes in the anime but hopefully the main group is fun and it avoids too much drama.

When the full game is out, you play for the story and from there decide whether you like any of the girls. If not, you drop the game, simple as. Reroll for the one girl you're interested in if you're so inclined, but I find that to be pretty pointless since all you get from rerolls are perms and not limiteds anyway so you can easily get them.
