While it's hard to second guess what the one that fucked up the Hanebado adaptation was thinking I'm pretty sure all of his intentions for the main characters went wrong.
Ayano was pretty much the only one with drama that it felt like you could sympathise with by the end but I'm sure he was trying to assassinate her character to make the others seem better.
