I've got seven episodes left of original 02.
I know I'm in for the death run to the end, but I genuinely forgot how much of a mess episode 43 is. Hikari and Taichi discussing the new four kids not having actually killed a single Digimon is so late in the story it floored me. SkullSatamon practically one-shotting seven Perfects was truly embarrassing for the original Chosen.
At least the non-plot parts of the Christmas episode including THAT scene and the "World Tour" had their moments.
I'd rank the "World Tour" segments New York >>> Paris > Mexico > Hong Kong > Australia >>>> Moscow.
Mimi's parents and Michael's father are the main reason NY is top; hilarious how Michael Sr. manages to be infinitely better than his dull as dishwater son despite only appearing for about 30 seconds in total. I forgot Sora almost dies falling into a snowy heap in 02 as well as tri. They truly did a number on her after Adventure.

Meanwhile Palmon was probably still celebrating Christmas with Mimi and her parents in New York, blissfully unaware of what was going on in Japan. I knew they purposefully wrote Mimi out of most of 02 but not having Palmon in for the final stretch, no matter how useless she is, is a bit rude.
All that said, even that battle wasn't as ridiculous as the closing scenes though where it turns out you have TWO sets of villains chasing Ken. That's when you know the show isn't going to end well.
