It truly was and remains something incredibly special. While I wouldn't call the show to be an overall masterpiece (second half was weaker than the first half imo), it absolutely was a visual masterpiece and there's no other action-oriented show that has as good and inventive visual direction.

I don't like fanservice shows with tons of panty/boob shots out of nowhere and I thought the fanservice was fine. I think because the nudity was there for the fun of it and it affected ALL of the characters rather than just the cute girls.
I did think that some parts were tasteless and cringe like having Mako's dad, brother, and Guts constantly wanting to peep on Ryuuko (when they're supposed to be wholesome family figures) and Ragyo literally masturbating her own daughter, but I get that it's for self-insert pleasure.
