Artists don't always improve linearly--look at Oda who's been drawing One Piece for a billion years now but his art has just gotten worse. Anyway, horses are really fucking hard to draw for even experienced artists. Animals in general, but horses are DMD tier. And when they're in motion you might as well give up unless you're some horse drawing savant.
