Can mostly recognise Hiragana and Katanaka at this point, I'm pretty much just using Duolingo at the moment though, which may not be the best.

No. Languages without alphabets are just really retarded. Japanese is still easy compared to fucking Chinese. I found the speak easy, though.

You can read Minna no Nihongo for free right now after registering, but you are actually better off just downloading the PDF from somewhere else so you can keep it forever. There's the English grammar book to go with it get that too. It will help your kana by forcing you to use them right away.
