Power Levels

what does Yas Forums think of power levels?

cringe and underage

Can Yas Forums name a series that actually did power levels well or are they always shit???

I just wanna know how hard they can cum Goddamn it

I can't think of a single series that was benefited by power levels being introduced.

World Trigger kinda has Power levels and they matter a lot - yet they get overshadowed by strategy and a lot of other factors like Teamwork and on the moment stuff

Do these power levels make the series any better?
Or is the author just able to prevent them from making it worse?

no, the scaling always breaks at some point.

I think power levels SUCK

They sure give a lot of insight what to expect from a Person - Trion in that sense is the "raw" power level.
The example kinda explains itself. It's not just like a Yu-gi-oh card.
I do believe these Power levels help you understand certain actions more and certain archievements - like how the main char managed to actually beat some oponents who hard outscale him in every aspect except special tactics which he has on 4.

the best thing but ruined by ignoring it later in the series like in dragonball

>Heh heh, my number is bigger...
>Time to smirk and chuckle and brush off all your attacks.
>W-WHAT!? YOU GOT ANGRY?
>OH NO, NOW YOUR NUMBER IS BIGGER!
>GUESS I GOTTA GO ALL OUT
>HEH HEH, NOW MY NUMBER IS BIGGER AGAIN
Literally every power level anime.

if i would make a game or manga i would put power levels in them

Always hide your powerlevel

Zatch Bell until Clear Note's arc. I liked the idea of having a list of powers that are unlocked by training and bonding with the demons.

While I haven't gotten around to World Trigger, is there no other way to show the relative skill of these characters other than giving them stats that from your post seem to be very meaningful?
Like I don't need to have stat points on guys in a IRL UFC fight to be able to see relative strengths and weaknesses between them. Same goes for a manga like Kengan Asura or Baki.

trion levels have nothing to do with skill, it's just "mana points" for their attacks. A skilled trionlet can easily best someone with high trion who doesn't know what the fuck they're doing

>measuring power levels with numbers
Dropped the moment that numbers get involved. They can banter a bit around the idea of who is stronger, but when you start to put numbers into it, it just gets fucking retarded.

I don't like attaching hard numbers to any kind of physical property, and especially some kind of aphysical energy pool.
It doesn't really mesh with reality, which is far more fluid and organic.

It only makes sense if the anime is about an mmo / video game. Gain exp to level up.

Friendly reminder that Lexus beat Erza, and Vegeta is UNDEFEATED against Goku.

*Laxus

what about when classes are involved?
like there are adventurers of class s which is always stronger than class a and so on.

Power levels, played straight with exact numerics like this, 99% of the time go to shit and lead to either rampant inflation to where the numbers are meaningless, or the logic of the setting breaks when considering them. To an extent, it makes sense that people inuniverse come up with a way to quantify abilities if they're wide spread enough, but it's narrative cancer when done like this.

You can somewhat have your cake and eat it if you do something like letter grades representing a 'range', so you could have two people as a "B rank" but one's still stronger than the other despite being in the same "class". It's slightly less prone to inflating the values to such high levels they're meaningless, like what DBZ did, but by no means is it immune with bullshit like SSS. Still the lesser of two evils than hard numbers, if you ask me.

Scaling classes aren't bad so long as the differences are reasonable between them.
We have rankings irl of generally how good people in a certain group are compared to the rest. But these aren't like set in stone values or anything. Its more of a general idea.

I think it is okay, as long as it is not the focus of the plot. For example, OPM did a terrible job with its system, mostly because they can't stop talking about it and bringing it up. It got annoying a few volumes in.

The power creep in Plunderer cracks me up everytime

I forgot the pic.

Explain. Never heard of that series.

A system that infallibly quantifies who's better than who kills any sort of tension in a fight
What benefit does it bring to the story? Is the author just too lazy/incompetent to show how strong a character is without spelling it out?

Power creep can be annoying enough, when the author breaks out a measuring stick it's time to drop that shit.

Cautious hero

only spics and niggers care about that
