So, in the event that a human has a lack of mana, their life force itself can be used as a substitute. This is the concept that Servants like Medusa and Medea use to power themselves up with by killing off randos.

Saber needs a lot of mana to be able to shoot off Excalibur. More than even Rin can provide with much regularity.

Now, Shirou is a bad magus, so he wasn't providing Saber with a lot of mana. But in that same vein, he had Avalon inside of him and when that was active, due to proximity to Saber, it basically made him quasi-unkillable.

So, to that end, couldn't Saber have shot off Excalibur a lot more if she wanted to? At least once every few hours, considering Shirou was generally hunky dory after a nap no matter how close to dead he was, as long as their contract is intact.

According to who. Shirou staying alive doesn't make his ability to give mana any better. That's why characters like Rider need to absorb fluids directly from normal humans, which is what Saber does when they fuck. But it's still a limited method unless Idk she eats him or something like Sakura does

think about it like this: you have a really small cookie. You can eat that cookie every day, and after 4 hours or so it's gonna get reanimated by this mystical force called Avalon. You can still only eat five cookies every day, it's not enough to not die from hunger. On top of that Saber doesn't specialize on absorbing mana/vital energy like Medea. It's a pointless comparison
