What do you think about Miyazaki and Ghibli? What are his best films?

I haven't seen that much, Spirited Away and Totoro, and didn't really care that much for them.
I loved Tale of Princess Kaguya, Whisper of the Heart and Grave of the Fireflies though.

Most of them are boring or insultingly bad
Sasuga of normalfag tier movies

Grave of the Fireflies is a movie that I legitimately will not watch again. I remember watching it as a kid and it made me really fucking sad. Haven't seen it since I was 8 and I don't plan on seeing it again. Weird thing is that I remember the plot really vividly despite having not seen it in so many years. That's how I know it was a good movie.

I respect him, but I’ve always preferred Takahata.

Seems weird no one on here ever talks about him or his films.

Nausica is fugging amazing, watch it immediately

I liked Mononoke well enough, and my friend considers Porco Rosso to be one of his all-time favourite movies period.

Miyazaki's my favourite director, probably. I think all his works are excellent but Totoro and Wind Rises are maybe my favourites. Ghibli as a studio is of course great, if only because it housed two of the best directors ever

Whisper of the Heart I don't care much for. It's just a bit too sentimental, which is probably due to the source material being a manga. As for my favorite Miyazaki, I'd probs have to go with Spirited Away.

I was gonna read the manga first, how is it?

Both are fantastic

Kaguya Hume no Monogatari, Spirited Away, Howl, and maybe Porco Rosso and Mononoke are Amazing. Don't care about the rest.

Why is Takahata so underrated compared to miyazaki.

His best films are Porco Rosso, Castle of Cagliostro and Whisper of the Heart. I also love Mononoke Hime but I was really young when I saw it so not sure about its quality

Not as accesible

He's a pedo

Porco Rosso is amazing, and so is The Wind Rises. Miyazaki is a huge aviationfag and as a fellow aviationfag I feel that on a deep level.

Ponyo and Howl's Moving Castle are by far his best movies. Ponyo is the second best animated movie after Fantasia.

Howl is nonsense plotwise though

Who's that Rumi Hiiragi lady who used to work with him on Spirited Away 19 years ago, though? A one-hit wonder who never lend her voice again?

Isn't the whole point that he wants nobody voice actors

That's why they're so shit?

Yes

Been using my corona time to rewatch all his stuff, mostly including the stuff I'd never seen/skipped since it didn't interest me before.
is absolutely positively correct; the movie and the manga are absolutely worth the time, probably my favorite stuff from him. I would watch the movie first then the manga, but since they both have different plots, either order is fine. Some days I prefer the movie to the manga, but right now the manga is my favorite. I should say that I grew up with that movie, so I'm really biased when I say it's probably my favorite movie ever.
Kiki's Delivery Service is one that gets understated I feel, absolutely a great movie, but it's themes are really close to me so probably more bias; definitely recommend to people who liked Whisper of the Heart. Castle in the Sky and Mononoke Hime are also really good, but how much you'll like those depends on how much you like Nausicaa, since they trend the some of the same ground I feel.

Some of the best things Japanese animation has to offer come from Ghibli and from him no matter how hard muh secret club contrarian faggots moan and cry. My favorites of his in no particular order are Mononoke, Nausicaa, Wind Rises and Cagliostro, as for films not directed by him - Whisper, Kaguya and Marnie.

Oh shit, is Marnie Ghibli? Love that one.

I really enjoyed When Marnie Was There, which most people on this board don't seem to. In particular there is a scene in a tower where the rain, lightning and thunder is lashing out which I found particularly impressive, it reminded me of golden age Disney films

Ocean Waves is the worst film but I forgive it since the whole point was to give xp to younger employees

Nausicaä (the manga) is his best work. The Iliad of the globalised west-dominated era.

Marniechads rise up! This will be our year!

There's a couple of nice scenes and it's pretty enough but just like the book it's based on, the plot is very thin and anticlimactic. Other stories from the same era have done similar concepts better. The revelation at the end of the movie would be where a good story would be entering its second act.

cringe movies for psueds

San is a sub-plot, not a main character in Princess Mononoke, and that movie should have been titled The Legend Of Ashitaka or something and would be even better regarded today if for it. Prove me wrong.
