I keep wanting to try this again but remembering how much of a slog his writing style is at the start always deters me. Does it improve. I just want character interactions and mystery. I dont need 7 paragraphs describing the dock and the scenery around it in shitty English. Of course this is partly fault of translation but if he does this throughout the entire novel I def wont make it

It gets good once Maria reads the letter at dinner. Take note of grudges characters have and mysterious things early on, though, as there are some major hints in unexpected places.
