I actually I kind of get OP's complaint. All the chuuni shit wasn't present from the beginning, it blindsides you starting episode 2 and 3. If you like the more grounded aspects then it's basically false advertising. Most people drop Umineko in episode 2 because of the chuuni laser sword fight sequence comes out of nowhere and confuses the reader.
Though it's a bit odd he hates chuunishit so much. I assume OP watches anime, so he should already be familiar with it. I thought some fantasy anime elements like the red in episode 2 was complete genius. The fight sequences did add a lot of drama, even though I thought they were overdone and took too long. Removing all chuuni elements from the story would make it quite dull.
