I've been thinking about an idea for an anime and it does have a trap. Although I feel like the more I think about it the more plotholes I find. Maybe writing it down will make it more clear.
The story would start in a small poor village in a medieval fantasy setting. The main character is a young man who goes out to work in the fields in the morning. Then during the day he sees a few horse pulled carts accompanied by mounted soldiers enter the village holding the kingdom's flag. He goes to check out what's happening and an officer looking man reads an edict that they're recruiting soldiers under the local general's command. He figures that it beats farming turnips so he raises his hand to join, along with a few other lads in the village. They go and sit in the carts that already have some recruits from other villages. They chat on the way and get brought to a fortress where they get some equipment and start training.
After a little while they get the command to join the general's troops in defeating a hydra in the area. A decently sized army then starts fighting the hydra, one if it's heads grabs a horserider and tosses the horse at the main character, making him stuck under the horse.
It seems like they're about to win and the hydra's chest starts swelling up with a red color, charging up a fire breath attack. Seeing that a young flustered mage in the army chants a fire ball spell. The general shouts at him to stop but it was too late and the fireball connects with the hydra's chest, causing a massive explosion that blows everyone nearby to bits. The survivors run back towards the castle and the horse that was on the mc had most of it blown off but managed to protect him. He manages to climb out and sees the general's remains, he was wearing a mythril plate chest that protected his torso but his head and lower body got blown off. He figures that he might as well just snatch that armor, then under it finds the noble house's insignia that the general belongs to.

Taking the insignia and the chest amor he walks to the roads and joins on a caravan going to a merchant town. There he uses the insignia and the general's name to fool some officials into giving him money, food and free lodging at an inn. The innkeeper is suspicious that it might be a stolen one but it's not worth the risk of pissing off an actual noble so he just lets him get away with it. While he's up to his scam actions he sees a girl walking in front of him and a woman about to throw a bucket of dirty water out of a window so he pulls her back so she avoids the dirty water.
She then starts crying and thanking him for saving her life. The mc thinks says that it's a bit of an exaggeration, she wouldn't die from some dirty water. She tells him that she's actually a lower rank demon whose body is made out of fire and they usually live in the swamps, basically a will 'o wisp kind of creature. But there's an event once a year where they make a contract with the king of demons to go out and make 365 humans choose a wrong path in life in one year. If they succeed they get promoted to be high rank demons and join the king's royal guard. If they get discovered and get water thrown at them then they die.
The scam artist guy and the demon girl decide work together and get into different kinds of mischief, make people gamble, get them drunk and steal ther stuff, selling fake products, things like that. Which eventually catches the local crime gang's eyes and they get dragged in front of the gang leader. He sees that they're a crafty pair of ne'er-do-wells so he lets them join his gang instead of throwing them in the river. Happy that they got out of that alive they go back to their room and stuff their faces will ill gotten food.
They hear a knock on the door, thinking it's the innkeeper bringing food they tell him to just come in. But instead there's two hooded figures, a taller one wearing plate armor and a smaller one wearing girl's clothes.

Reverse healing anime. Not much happens but the viewer finishes an episode feeling discomforted, maybe even sick. Lots of subtle ringing noises in the background, disorienting perspectives giving vertigo, colors that are always either washed out or oversaturated, the dialogue is strained and uncomfortable, characters don't get along but nothing is ever resolved.

The knight asks where's the general, whose name the mc has been using. I'm thinking the knight should be a female knight kind of archetype but that might be a bit cliche. But either way she notices the insignia on the mc's necklace. Thinking that the military finally started to look for him and came to chop his head off for using the general's name he asks the knight to calm down and just hear him out. He explains that the general got killed by the hydra and he'll stop using the insignia so just let him go this time. But the knight doesn't care about his scams, she's just unhappy that the general died. She tells them that the general was supposed to help them hide. She was a knight in a nearby kingdom who served the previous king, but that king died recently and the successor would be his young son. But the king's brother holds a lot more political and military power so the prince would most likely get imprisoned or assassinated. To save him the knight escaped and disguised the prince as a young girl. They're hoping to at least hide until the succession is over and the prince's uncle won't see him as a threat anymore. The general was the king's friend and would have helped them hide in his lands. But alas he died so they don't know where to go.
The mc says that he feels somewhat guilty about it because the general died beside him and then he was up to no good using his name. So as a form of repentance he'll help them hide. He takes them to the crime gang's hideout, when the boss first sees the prince he thinks it's a girl and is clearly enamored by him. Then the mc explains the situation and the boss gets a bit flustered that it's a boy but he agrees to hide them.
After that it would just a sort of adventurous daily life show. With the dynamic that the mc and the demon are a bonnie and clyde type goofy lowlifes, the prince is a naive, kind and always smiling innocent girl(boy) and the female knight tying to keep the prince from getting twisted by them.
