shinji is like the average anime viewer. a young guy who can't grow into an adult because being an adult means stop constantly indulging yourself in power fantasies, slaking around listening to music and being content leaving rent free in your own head. so the show has two girls: Rei which is the archetype of the anime waifu -in simpler terms a virgin's headcanon version of a how a girls are- and Asuka, a more realistic depiction of a girl.
