Their low-budget style in the first two seasons was perfectly suited to a series about art students. It looks like something the characters in the show could've made. The later seasons lost that charm with the increase in budget, but by that point the series could comfortably coast on the strength of the source material, the OST, and the VAs.

Soremachi is one of the few SHAFT anime that's worse than its source material. Still a solid 8/10 on its own merits though.

It's not even close. It was 10/10 before I realized Yuno was my daughteru. Now it's 11/10. PaniPoni is pretty great though.
I know what you mean, but we got four seasons. It's objectively popular, it just might not have insane shit-flinging threads that persist for years. We just have slow, gentle, wide-flinging threads instead.
