What are you currently watching? Recently finished a few shitty but fun OVAs like Genocyber and Armitage III. Thinking about starting Bubblgum Crisis and Vampire Princess Miyu
Pre-2000

Currently watching the 2nd OVA. I really like late 90's TV anime in general; to me it feels like the medium peaked at that point. There's something pleasantly relaxed about how disjointed the plot is between each episode, and the constant sniping between Yohko (Takayama Minami) and Madoka (Hayashibara Megumi) calling each other "cat-eyed" or "big forehead" respectively, and general sense of 90's-era freedom is really refreshing. It's just a whole load of wholesome fun, like riding around your neighbourhood on a bike with friends, or hanging out at a mall, except you get to pilot spaceships and shoot at other spaceships as well.
Been checking out Mama wa Shougaku 4 Nensei, it's so god damn cute. Also loving the high quality animation.
>Battle royal high school
Crappy direction and editing but the script is messy fun and has some cool animated scenes.
>Genmu senki leda
Amazing OVA with great art, mechanical designs, pacing, ost and animation.
As ahead of its time and influential for ยด90s animu as overlooked for casual fandom.
>Ultimate teacher
Just hysterical. The visuals are kinda dull and the animation is average but the gags and characters and surreal setting (Tkakahashi rip-off done right) are just great.
Demon City Shinjuku was really cool.
Nothing pre-2000s right now. I will be tremendously disappointed if Toei Tokusatsu World doesn't release more subs of God Sigma and Albegas.
I am currently watching Mobile Suit Gundam. I've seen the Golgo 13 movie and all of Space Cobra movie + series. I've seen several other pre-2000s movies and OVAs.
Make sure there's no one looking over your shoulder when you watch episode 22.
Battle Royal High School and Leda were both composed by Shiro Sagisu who later worked on NGE and Bleach.
Battle Royal High School music sounds very typical for an OVA of the time. In a positive way, it's really cool. Some songs have a certain Bleach vibe to it imo.

14:35 in particular
While Leda had more similarity to NGE sound wise. One of the songs resembled Eva 01 Theme a lot.
lol I actually just watched that episode
I recently saw an OVA called Butt Attack Punisher Girl Gautaman, which was amusing. The sequel Butt Attack Punisher Girl Gautaman R was even better.
They don't do OVA's like this any more bros.
Is there a way to watch this that's not VHS quality.
does it have vagina
I loved how the eyes of the main character looked. It brought me great pleasure. It was disappointing when the TV version didn't have eyes anywhere near that quality
It actually does in the second one, though it's of course censored. Lots of butt though, as the titles suggest.
I watched the first Cutie Honey from 1973. It is very old fashioned but I think this aspect itself has an appeal by itself and it becomes cute, endearing and silly. The tone and bizarre colors makes it undoubtedly a product of the early 70s and I'm all for that. The fashion model persona Fancy Honey is my fav.
It's the only Go Nagai anime from that era that's watchable.
>ZZ Gundam
I'm 20 episodes in.
It's starting to get better but holy hell it's been rough. I'm just trying to blaze through it so I can go to CCA and Unicorn. But honestly, I think I might take a break and watch 0080 or 08th ms.
>A way to watch that's not peak video quality
They can't open the schools back up soon enough
Watch the OYW OVAs if you haven't already. Honestly, CCA and especially Unicorn aren't worth it. Thunderbolt season 1 is fun too
Thunderbolt was why I went into the series in the first place.
Gundam 0079 was a fun watch but the whole battles every episode kinda took a toll on my enjoyment. After reading the manga too, I felt they had good ideas but the execution was a little lackluster.
Zeta Gundam was fucking amazing. I haven't binge watched an anime series like that in a while. Fucking two days straight of just lying in bed after work watching it.
I unironically want to watch a Gundam series that's very white vs black though. I'm getting tired of the Federation always being the dickwads.
They've already uploaded National Kid's 3rd and 4th episodes without subtitles, but left the option to add subtitles to it open.
Pretty much confirms they were always expecting people to just do the work for them for free.
Yeah the moral grayness is a hallmark of gundam series. I haven't seen it in 10+ years but I remember 00's big bad being pretty one dimensional, and the first season being really good.
Sorry for wanting to see the show in the proper colors intended by the makers and not some low quality saturated garbage that hinders the overall quality of the show.
>CCA
>not worth it
bump
How long until streaming becomes the "soulful" way to watch anime?
never
