Probably not vanilla happy, no. Look at the tone of the beginning, homeless teenage boy who sells chunks of his body to pay his dad's debt. He was eating garbage off the street to avoid starving to death. The author is willing to go to some dark places and probably isn't motivated by happy endings

Honestly these last three chapters have just felt so amazingly heavy, always amazed how much mastery this author has over atmosphere.
The darkness is truly terrifying, and whatever makima is even more so.
