Ghost in the Shell - Stand Alone Complex

Which season was better?

strawpoll.me/19759991

I honestly can't even remember much from the first one, except a couple of standout episodes. But the first season had a much more satisfying finale than the second one, where Kusanagi let's her childhood love get killed and then she just shoots the bad guy and gets away with it.

The first season was about the Laughing Man, right?
And the second season was the Individual Eleven, right?

The Laughing Man was a lot more interesting than the other group, but the politics of the second season were more interesting than the first's.
But I'd have to give this a rewatch to really say. Its been years and this series has a lot of small details to it.
Still Motoko S2 had a much better design than in S1. I remember that much.

Season 1, because it didn't have Gohma. The first season featured the most realistic conspiracy I've ever seen in media -- not some top down orchestrated thing where one person or group of people controls the whole situation, but rather a disparate group with many different bad actors each of which opportunistically take advantage of a crisis and only know a part of the actual situation, and it all culminates into a confusing mess that takes the whole season to slowly pick apart.

Season 2 has Gohma. Gohma is a saturday morning cartoon villain.

I much prefer season 1 for this reason. Although season 2 still has plenty of fantastic episodes; typically the season 2 standalone episodes are better than the season 1 standalones.

The refugee plot line in S2 was really well done.

The plot arc of the first season was too convoluted in the end. Blonde dude in the second season getting killed was a bit cliche and lame but CIA getting his brains blown out was worth it.

>Season 2 has Gohma. Gohma is a saturday morning cartoon villain.
Was he really? I thought his motivation was explained quite well when they revealed he was actually just a run-of-the-mill male 4channer (virgin after the age of 30).

Both were inferior to Arise

Gohma was literally Donal Trump

literally who cares they're both excellent

Can't argue with those 5s.

>not some top down orchestrated thing where one person or group of people controls the whole situation,
um user

Season 1 was the more interesting

They're both nearly perfect but 2nd gig is more nearly perfect.

Delete this, it is anti-semitic.

I felt the stakes were a lot higher in the 2nd. The threat in the first wasn't nearly as large. Made for a better finale.

Finished it recently and loved them both but the Laughing man plot was so interesting and I loved every minute of it while the refugee plot wasn't as gripping but still good. Also S1 was my favourite episode, when Togusa goes undercover into the childcare facility and the laughing man is revealed. That episode was a fucking masterpiece

S1 had my favourite episode* don't mind my illiteracy

I would have to agree with consensus that Season 1's main plot is overall stronger, not that 2nd Gig isn't fascinating in its own right. The Individual Eleven twist was pretty strong, and some of the "dividual" eps were superb

Never trusted the idea of a NWO.
It requires too many people working together too well to ever work.
The uber-rich do run society from the shadows, but not as a single entity.

off topic, but is the movie and SAC the only things worth watching?

I still get goosebumps when I hear it.

cgi series when?

Man that episode was really great.

Hopefully far enough in the future where no one remembers to watch it.

this

I've heard the 2nd GITS movie is pretty good but I've never gotten around to it.
But Arise is a definite step down from the rest.

Which organization would Section 9 be in real life?

Second movie is okay. Weird scenes, but a lot of quoting stuff from philosophy and religion.
The main plot is from the ghost dubbing story in the first manga volume.

Unironically looking forward to the Netflix series because Mili is doing the OP/ED

both are 10s, but season one is like a stronger 10.

Some counter-insurgency police force I suppose.
Like the 'Enhanced' SWAT teams in the US.
At its root Section 9 is an expy of Germany's GSG 9.
