Has there ever been a more disastrous trainwreck than Gantz? How did this garbage even get popular in the first place?

its that phenominom where because a work does something different it seems exciting, in theis Case and stuff like GoT the appeal is that noone is safe so it makes things feel exciting cause there is a very real threat the MC at the time will die. But enevitably things go Greys Anatomy and they overdo it and you go from worry to just not giving a fuck.
Kyoto arc was pretty cool and the basic premise was really neat but yeah it really fell off.
GoT was good until they ran out of book and Dumb & Dumber started to make their own plots.
It's a pretty good manga overall. I liked that his friend was the MC for a while too. The ending chapters are so-so, but that's somehow what most people keep in mind while forgetting all the better moments before it.
It was kino. You have to read the last arc in once sitting to get the urgency of the situation.
Oku is not good at drawing action scenes, and it fucking shows. It is nearly impossible to tell what's going on in phase 3 given that it is all just a jumbled mess.
I think Gantz took off because of it's manly appeal, the tits and gore, and people found stuff worth sticking for, I'd wager right after or during the 3rd mission. The writing was good then because it didn't try to explain everything surrounding Gantz, and was just focused on the characters. I think that the fight against the Chibi aliens up until the formation of the second team is the best part of Gantz, it's really well-done thriller shit.
yeah, reading it for the first time in one sitting does make it seem really intense because a lot of things are happening so fast
>appeal is that noone is safe so it makes things feel exciting cause there is a very real threat the MC at the time will die
This concept gets thrown out of the window once reviving becomes a thing.
Because when a manga has a man being torn apart by cherubs, you have to follow it.
it actually ended really fucking well, youre a zoomer if you think otherwise
>hurr durr why wasnt there a big epic fight like in my BHA
I think I missed chapters of this. What happened to the dog and those vampires?
SnK is nosediving pretty hard right now, but there's still a chance it can pull out
>hurr durr why wasnt there a big epic fight like in my BHA
There literally was a big epic fight in the end you shounentard.
Dog got presumably killed off screen, same with the panda. The vampires were dropped from the story, but some of them made cameos in the ending cheering on Kei for some reason.
Everything goes wrong in last arc. Even powerlevel. Alien invasion is not bad concept itself. And last chapter with "Alien God" was meh.
I liked the ending, maybe because I didn't take the ending so seriously, as I expected this kind of thing from Oku. Even today, I still think that the MC is one of the characters that had the best development of all the works that I read.
Shock value.
Because it was great up until the last arc. Great fights, great art, great monster designs especially in the Osaka arc.
>How did this garbage even get popular in the first place?
Guns, tits and violence.
I remember thinking the MC's development felt really heavyhanded.
The final arc, and even more the volume 36 is a true god like Berserk master piece, if the ending was kinda "rushed" it's because the author after basically answering human life questions had nothing more to tell or to say, so he ended his story quickly, the story of gantz isn't the main thing within it, the story is more like a tool to him which he use to give us his views and ideas of life
>great art
The characters and monsters look like stiff models posed on a photo background half the time because that's what they are.
Why do retards keep posting this page when it's humorous on purpose?
I dunno. It's so shit it shouldn't exist. I guess some works pass filter system based on high luck.
>the ending wasn't perfect therefore the whole manga is garbage
Gotta love Yas Forums, same shit will happen with Berserk and tons of other ongoing manga.
>implying there aren't fucktons of people who think Berserk went to shit after X or Y point
>Great fights, great art, great monster designs
Maybe in the earlier chapters, but in general? Almost nothing in the series is hand drawn, just traced over 3D models. I know most mangaka do the same shit for referencing, but in Gantz it's so lazy and blatant that it just looks like he superimposed a 3D model on the page with a b&w filter. Fight scenes are almost incomprehensible.
was this kino? or just an attempt that fell flat?
Because adequately terrible pages are indistinguishable from satire
The manga was garbage even before the ending. There are so many plotholes and dropped plotlines that it was impossible for Gantz to ever have a satisfying ending.
Flat.
>adult man crying because "Alien God" told him there is no God and soul is just data
Just think about this scene. They're just advanced race of aliens. Why do you believe them? Because they show you some fancy "magic"? They give you just shitty technology. It's impressive but not god tier level.
Nonsensical and shoehorned in, the manga should've ended here with the alien god blowing everyone up.
Came way too quickly out of nowhere, but the scene where Lara Croft is revived just to realize she is already to late and instantly die again was great.
but other's have to risk their lives because of it. though the stake isn't as high as it was before, at least it's not zero
It's pretty clear that Oku had no idea about the overarching plot when he began serializing. The manga was pretty good when it was about the survival game but burned and crashed when he actually tried to explain stuff. It's why all of those reveals are incredibly underwhelming. Gantz balls built by a fat woman receiving psychic communications, give me a break.
If one of the vampires actually put on a fucking gantz suit the aliens would have lost in 5 seconds.
Reminds me of how Dgrey man flopped after their God child Battle. Gantz felt like it was wrapping up when Italy arc occurred, then the final invasion arc had a good concept with giants but the over all plot fucked up.
i actually enjoyed it more when there are less tits and more development. and the unique survival game concept is what hooked me into it
