Mad scientist, no contest. Subaru gets psychological scars everytime he dies but his checkpoint bullshit is way too convenient, if he fucks up he can just try again, and eventually gets to perfect a route. If Okabe screws up he has to go through all kinds of fucked up shit to fix the previous mistake while living with the knowledge that everything bad that happens around him is literally his fault.

I'd say Okabe if we compare only the anime of both.
I read steins;gate but I don't really know the full extent of Subaru's suffering in the LN.
