I think this series illustrates perfectly how horribly rigid and frankly even sometimes, downright harmful to society, the Samurai caste was during the peace of the Edo period. At least during the Sengoku Jidai, Samurai were more pragmatic and overall less devoted to the idea their lord was incorruptible and above the ideas of justice of the peasant and merchant castes.
