I blew through OT compared to NT because I'd reread pages in NT till I felt like I fully understood just what the fuck happened.
That and I can't read a shit ton all at once without forgetting more than I should... I don't think I'm alone in this either, they've done studies showing it's better to read/watch/consume in smaller chunks to remember and think on the information -- to properly store it.
I think I lost a lot just reading over 6 months, I can't imagine reading over a month all of NT.

I read on the basis I wanted to read it. When I got into some hyped stretches like late OT, NT8-10, and NT18+ I picked up my pace and read a novel every day or so. The rest I took my time to digest everything since a lot of people overlook small details in the text. But yes, NT is even worse to speedread than OT, god knows how many times anons here missed out on something and had to be pointed out. Alas, not everyone is a fast reader and going too fast will only get you confused.

Maybe I'm just a bit odd.
My conscious focus, my mind's eye, and my unconscious memory, have an odd relationship where a lot of any book becomes compressed into some kind of state I can't translate back into my conscious mind without "errors".
It's not that I've forgotten the information or that it's corrupted, it's just that I can't act on it like I know it, it just becomes a gut feeling I can't substantiate all that well.
Gets much worse the more I read at once of this series; other books like Dune compress well but this series just doesn't compress well for me. Or rather it compresses in a simplified "format".
It's forced me to slow down significantly.

Technically every esper has been brain damaged, so they can't use magic. Othinus isn't afaik though.
I don't have any problem remembering everything from OT(except some of the names of the amakusa menbers and little details from fights) and I've read most of the series in about a month. I do sometimes have problems putting volume numbers to the individual arcs in the second half of NT though, but that's mostly due to the fact that everything happend in such a short time period I suppose.
