this picture is pretty stupid.
The story literally revolves around pirates going from island to island. How would you make a story like that without "Go to Island", "Meet Natives" and "Crew leaves Island"?
And of course they are going to fight and win against a villain. It's a battle shounen that is written around conflicts like that.
That's like complaining a story about race-cars always starts with "starting the engine" and "crossing the finish-line".
Also, this picture covers about 10% of the current story-line.

I think they fit rather nicely with the world and atmosphere of the story. In fact, Imo once you understand the atmosphere and the world their designs are amongst the best on manga.
