Adapting CFYOW wouldn't be a one-off episode if you tried to adapt it, it would be a whole arc on its own. An arc without Ichigo and Rukia with little to no appearances from most of the other popular characters.

Hisagi has his fanbase, that's why Kubo gave him an extended role in FKT battle (he said he was confused by people loving such a non-character, so he gave him something to like). But he's in no way comparable to the top dogs of the franchise.

I mean could market Grimmjow, but that's about it.

He dabbed on Rose AND Kensei by low dif. obliterating Mask and to be honest besides Kyoraku, Zaraki and Byakuya I don't see many more captains stronger than him. Maybe Shinji and Toshiro due to gimmicks but that's sure as hell it.

My headcanon is that he's decided to stay a VC until he surpasses Byakuya. So never.

If that's the case then it's a bullshit decision, he can work on that without degrading himself to be a vice-captain. People always point out the Zaraki - Ikkaku case when they talk about Renji and Byakuya but this is not the same situation. Actually it's the exact opposite. Renjis drive is to be Byakuyas equal and he arguably reached that at the end of the manga.

Well, on one hand you're right. On the other, Ikkaku/Kenpachi situation is also based on a giant bullshit. There's no reason for Ikkaku to hide his bankai, given Sasakibe's 2 millenia of being Yama's sidekick with bankai and even Renji's situation. But he still does.

I think Sasakibe having bankai was also not widely known. Probably only the people who were around at that time like Kyoraku and Ukitake knew, Byakuya even said people used to disrespect him because they had no clue. Ikkaku was kind of a retard, later it turned out plenty of people knew (like Mayuri and fucking Iba of all people). Him staying under Zaraki however kind of makes sense since he was basically his role model, he really enjoyed serving under him since he owed his life to him anyway. But Renji? I don't know man, I don't think it's in Renjis character to cling to Byakuya when he's given a chance to stay on the same pedestal as him. He literally would've completed his character arc if he would've been a captain at the end, it was just a huge wasted opportunity

Yes he mentioned some kind of records but it is arguable how official they were since he mentioned in the same sentence that Sasakibe was treated like a lowly goon by most people due to them not knowing how OP he apparently was. I think there is most likely a department that keeps track of who obtained bankai, probably the technical department. And if you have the authority you can look into those recordings, that's what would make the most sense to me at least. Hell I wouldn't be surprised if Ikkakus bankai was recorded in there too.
