I started reading it a few days ago. I'm part way through Arlong Park right now and so far I'm really enjoying it. It feels like a type of shonen story that doesn't really exist in other, newer series, so if you'd like something different from the standard modern WSJ fare it's worth trying

The anime doesn't butcher many moments. Hell, the only shit that I can remember is the part where Zeff cuts his leg off instead of eating it, kinda ruining the scene. Everything else is better, specially due to the soundtrack and voice acting

OP genuinely has one the the worst anime adaptations. Bad pacing, bad animation, bad music, filler mixed in with canon episodes.

Naruto, the orignal not shippuden had like 10 fillers until it finished the canon story by like episode 135 or something. By that point most people are invested in a show and wont drop it easily.

Naruto had some great fights with good animation, chunin exams, sasuke vs orochi, Gara vs Lee, tournament arc, naruto vs garaa and finally naruto vs sauske at the end.

The music in OG Naruto does so much for the show, it has so many memorable tracks and I personally think the music is a massive reason why the show got as big as it did.

I know it's WSJ series and I'm not trying to seem pretentious or too mature, I'm on Yas Forums of all places after all - but even compared to the average WSJ battle shounen or whatever it seems really infantile and condescending. Every character is always crying and melodramatically screaming in every other conversation, no one but children talk like this. I can't fully judge what it's like beyond the first few volumes that I've read but the more recent pages I've seen seem to still be like this as far as I can tell

Nope, the reason why it got popular in the west was because it was basically quirky Japanese Harry Potter

My big questions are, this far in is it actually worth it to start now, or would it be better to wait until it is all complete.
And, is there a competent One Piece Kai being fan produced? Naruto Kai for instance was so good on rewatched the entire series.
I recall liking OP when it aired on Toonami but I tried watching it recently and holy shit it DRAG. It was like 40 episodes each just to get through the Sanji and Nami arc or something. Frankly unwatchable long.

Watch until the Carvo arc and then skip ahead to the bomb boat war, skip the next 30 chapters after that, switch to anime starting with the Pungus ritual arc and then watch 70-80 episodes in a row until you're fully caught up, then switch back to manga but skip everything until the last ~10 chapters. Goddamn, someone should really make a filler list for this series so I don't have to type this out every time.

Watch One Pace, its the Kai version of OP. The anime still sucks ass with the kai version, either read the manga or just don't bother.

I just got to Water 7, and I really enjoyed the anime up until Skypiea. I'm hoping it picks up. I read manga, so maybe that would be better for me, because I can't stand how obnoxious a lot of the characters are in regards to the crying, and complaining.

The slow panning shots 24/ and the yelling is the most annoying part of the anime.
I stick to the manga mainly but watched a little of the anime years ago and Brooke makes the same fucking joke 4 fucking times in an episode. I honestly got a headache watching it, it's just so fucking bad.

Not at this point. Oda keeps teasing new arcs while making them longer, and we have been at the half point of the series for a decade by now. No sense waddling through 976 chapters for a series that will likely not end.
