He seems physically as strong as Luffy, as they were competing in the prison, not sure he was paying attention to his haki training, or if he cares. He may rely a bit too much on his df. Admittedly paramecias are fucking wild so I suppose in theory if he could trap Kaido's neck in a vice grip, magnetism could serve as a guillotine capable of either cutting or crushing his neck. I don't think so. all the Strawhats have grown over the course of the series. Nami learned to trust others. Usopp is learning to be a brave warrior of the sea. Chopper learned to get over being a 'monster'. Robin stopped being suicidal. Franky learned to stop hating himself for the past and started building ships again. Luffy got literally mind broken in Marineford before he picked himself up. Sanji stops suffering.

Not trying to start shit during the current thread climate, but Jimbe was the one who helped pick Luffy back up. Almost every single character grows from other members of the crew or people close to the crew. Those character interactions are the catalyst for often unspoken growth.

He's not supposed to be a mere crewmember, he's supposed to be a member of the future Pirate King's Crew. Sanji humiliated BM, Luffy humiliated BM, Nami humiliated BM, even Brook humiliated her. They couldn't beat her though and that's the difference between a hack and a decent writer.

Because they're well developed and fleshed out. If you want character progression for 20+ years that's straight than you're reading the wrong story (even tho the SHs DO have their moments of development in arcs anyway).

In each individual arc the story is actually on the side characters that we encounter. Skypiea is about the Shandians and Skypieans. Dressrosa is about Rebecca, Kyros and the Strawhat fleet. Wano is about the Kozuki, the Kurozumi and the Scabbards. It's their stories that are being told to us and the Strawhats are our medium to these stories. The narrative of One Piece isn't about the consistent growth of Luffy and the others, it's the growth of everyone else they encounter and cause to change.

I really hope they set up Sanji, Jinbei and Zoro as the new monster trio. I was doubting the three of them were gonna fight the allstars but now that the Scabbards are all sneaking around to job against Kaido it's a lot more possible. I have no problem with the rest of the crew fighting the Flying Six, at least it'd mean they're all getting their own fights again. Usopp, Nami and Chopper are really overdue for a fight.

The point of having both Usopp and Sanji get foiled by Kanjuro was to show how dangerous he was. Both are the fastest characters in terms of short-range and long-range combat and Kanjuro out-maneuvered them both.
