Exactly. I was going to bring up the example of "otaku" in English. In Japanese it doesn't necessarily have a connection to Yas Forums type stuff. You can be into trains or whatever and you'd be a train otaku. But the English loanword has a distinct connotation of being into anime. You would never call someone who obsessively collects skyscraper floor plans or something an otaku.
In the same way, the word "lolicon" does mean "pedophile" in Japanese, but when borrowed into English it has the distinct connotation of relating to anime girls.
