It was because 22i wanted to round up his series at 20 volumes, so with Uruka closing volume 17, that would mean 2-3 volumes to complete the other routes to respect that.

Yes, we are now in the Sawako's route for the next 4 chapters.
So things suddenly become about Sawako. This whole route is pretty forced. Nariyuki and Rizu don't have any unique dynamic. There's still no progress made at all after five chapters.
Sawako is a side character with no importance. The only purpose of her mom seems to be to remove Sawako from things to try and make Nariyuki somehow love Rizu by being forced into a situation where he has to spend more time alone with her. We don't even know anything about Rizu's mom.
I agree, however it's a terrible way to do Rizu's route.
And unless Nariyuki and Rizu fuck there is too much filler in her route.
Maybe it's Sawako drama in Rizu route.

It's also strange that they revealed Sawako's birthday before Rizu's. Rizu really feels like a secondary character in her own arc at this point, which really makes me think that Tsutsui didn't plan this omnibus ending thing very well.

I think it's already established in the "date" chapter (but never followed through) that in way sawako and rizu are each other's foils. Sawako seems to understand people perfectly and can read them like books but ultimately doesn't want to care about what they think, she can read the situation and clear romcom misunderstandings, she has no problem making friends with others ( it seems to me that she easily got acquainted with nariyuki and the rest of the trio ), she's the head of her own club (that should've taken some effort as a leader) , and it seems she even made a board game better, which had caused rizu great envy. Also regarding sawako accepting... Maybe she wants to move aside because she feels she's getting in the way of yuiga and rizu?
