Why does stop using his red coat in FMA 2003 and just has his black jacket on? Is there any answer to this? Always though it was interesting.
Fullmetal Alchemist
Brotherhood > 2003
You watched the wrong version.
Hommunculi sucked aside from Greed and Wrath. That and their creation is the only thing I'll give the fanfiction.
FMA 2003 handled everything more maturely, Brotherhood had a generic shonen punch with the power of friendship ending and everything's great now.
That being said Brotherhood has an appeal.
>power of friendship
Retarded faggots still haven't proven this.
>point out everyone actually helping exhaust the bad guy's powers by forcing shielding and regeneration
>becomes hurr defeat God with bullets and friendship
Wrath was based.
and redpilled af
brotherhood is just a flandardized version of 2003
Coat is a pain in the ass to animate.
Ed should have stopped wearing his coat the second Bradley threatened Winry as an easily missable "fuck you" to the military. What I would have wrote unless Arakawa really likes that design, she even gave him a winter version of it briefly before going back.
I think Ed looks cooler without the coat. His black jacket is kinda edgy and cool. That's why I love Ed from 2003.
Gimme more animes like FMA 2003 where the MC or the good guys did something and created somehow the villains, pls I have enough of friendship.
I'm not disagreeing. I love the distinction with him later just wearing his jacket and Ed should have went to stop The Promised Day in something new.
the absolute state of shonenfags
I think it comes off after episode 27ish when he and AL recommit to their training. The jacket had their teacher's emblem, and a couple of episodes later they learn that Teacher had made the same mistake they did. I guess it's like "You can't go home" and "You already know everything that I can teach you" n sheit.
Poopbrain right here
desu when i saw you said poop in your post i laughed so hard i PEED my pants lol pretty ironic
The jacket has the Flamel cross on it, I can't think of anything disregarding that could mean at the moment but it's probably to do with that.Even if it's not directly to do with Flamel, Dante also used the cross in her home decor so maybe it's about not accociating with Dante.
The coat has nothing to do with the military. He's just a little shit and doesn't wear uniform other than his watch.
so you get both looks
Cute!
Was Lujon a simp?
Yes.
They're both great shows. Fuck off with this shit.
>where the MC or the good guys did something and created somehow the villains
Unironically the dark signer arc.
I saw Greed at a grocery store in Dublith yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.
He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”
I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying.
The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.
When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.
I've watched both shows in less than a month so my opinion is the most accurate here. Both shows are equally overrated, but Brotherhood is better because its story just makes sense and it features the best girl.
You can close the thread now.
I know this is a parody of the classic copypasta but greed would fucking do all of this shit.
I was going to make a thread but it seems like I could just go with it here. Does 2003 have any of the political stuff featured in Brotherhood? Like, I liked the depth at which Central is expanded in the 09 version. I recently finished BH and wanted to check out '03 but it's not really gripping me as much, does it have story beats similar to the Nation-wide transmutation circle or goes way off that idea?
Anything after Izumi shows up in broho isn't in 03.It has it's own merits but don't go in expecting something similar to broho.
Lust has character development in 2003 compared to brotherhood.
Ikr, there's so much you can do with Greed and shitposting/copypastas
Not as much as brohood as far as I can remember, 2003 focuses more on the angst while brohood is more plot focused
Dam I wish someone had pointed that out once in the last decade here's your medal user.
>here's your medal user.
Thank you i guess.
I see... so essentially the best parts of 09 aren't in the original? That's sad.
Is Bradley half as based in 03 as he is in the newer version? I understand he's not a homunculus so I'm afraid my favorite character might get changed too much. Also are homunculi in 03 just the result of human transmutation and have like, no real motive as to why they're the 7 deadly sins? Cause it seems that way to me right noe
I like how her hair has character devolopement aswell. First it's coiffured in a classy 1940s style, but towards the end its all messy
Wrath!Bradley > Pride!Bradley easily
The Seven Deadly Sins thing doesn't really make that much sense, I guess Dante just thought it sounded aesthetic
He's still a homunculus but he's not as based.
they still fit tho (convenientally), how they defined 03!Sloth was really interesting (as emotional apathy and not just laziness)
I agree that it was more mature, I feel like 2003 better gave the impression that ed and al were only 14 and 15, children actually coming to grips with death and the horror of humanity (or cruelty)
I just love the FMA style. Brotherhood looked dull imo
Lust might be the most attractive woman ever.
he's kinda based, he chokes out his son one time just cause he can
I think a combination of the two would be great, 03's style worked perfectly for characters with rounder features but characters like scar and hoenheim really sufferd.
To everyone whining about how more mature FMA was, it's funny to note that this scene worked in the first anime better precisely because it was cooler as wish fulfillment.
You're 12 and holy shit you want to be this dude. Dad please chop my hand and get me a prostetic.
Many of the best scenes in FMA used extreme reds and yellows or deep blues.
This scene in particular might be the most expressive face from both series.
03 really had so much better direction, the best example of this is when Scar breaks Ed's arm the look on Ed's face really says 'holy shit I'm fucked' in 03 where as in broho you don't get a good look at him, I prefer brotherhood overall but jesus I wish it could have had direction half as good as 03
I really missed Mustang's PTSD moments in Brotherhood. It added so much both to his character. Maybe the Envy killing episode wouldn't've been so shit if his borderline insanity due to war was a thing there.
>Killing Envy was shit
How does it feel to have taste so shit?
To be fair, some scenes looked great in both series. This one was well a budget shot in both episodes if I recall correctly.
I don't know.
I feel like brotherhood wanted to steer clear of the way 03 set up some iconic shots even if they were ripped straight from the manga so that lead to some weird framing. The lighting in 03 was really well done though.
>people calling Brotherhood fan fiction when it is literally the other way around
Wew lads
Many scenes in FMA were much more static than their Brotherhood counterparts though. You'd often get a pretty painting with great lightning like pic related in FMA, while in Brotherhood the lightning would be plain and colors more dull, but things would be moving.
Dragon Ball GT - Shadow Dragon saga
This was a brutal scene. It makes a thematic parallel between Izumi losing her child and Alphonse bleeding out a dead girl he tried to protect. It's so dark it gets into macabre territory, but it makes thematic sense with genocide and rape being explored in the coming episodes and Al starting his arc when he descends into despair just as Edward is finding a way out of his. Al just lost his childish innocence.
This scene might come straight from a magical realist painter's repertoire or out of Eva.
>"you are gettung a philosopher's stone transplant"
>"You find a little pile of dust with a card shaped like a card"
>power of friendship
The point of the entire second half of the manga is literally the brothers can't do shit alone, they need to accept they can't do shit alone and get allies. If every single named and non-named character actually doing shit in the final arc instead of just cheering on Ed to punch stronger is power of friendship I don't even know what you call shit like Fairy Tail.
Ed is shackled like a child, even though he hasn't been one for over ten episodes by this point, and is forced to watch the hell outside. The genocide is framed like a painting. What makes it unsettling are the beautiful colors outside that contrast with the house. Why does it look so dreamy outside - because except we're watching it thru Lyra's (future Dante's) point of view.
Always thought this scene was heavy as fuck for a relatively straight-forward shonen, I can't think of any other shows that had something this dark
There is only one Gate in FMA. And it's styled after Rodin's famous work "The Gates of Hell" inspired by the doors of hell in Dante's Divine Comedy.
Someone said earlier in the thread that Hoenheim works much better in Brotherhood. Looking at this, I do agree that the style fits him better, but I also think he looks quite good here as well.
It's definitely top five most jarring tone shifts in FMA, maybe even top three because it comes early. Most of the shocking stuff in the end you expect because the show already switched gears, but here it's quite unsettling.
