She can do the same oni transformation thing Rem can and gain an absurd level of martial art's prowess. And then, naturally, bleed out, fall over, and die.

It's too bad the next OP won't feature Rem. Maybe I'll be wrong, but I don't expect them to include her even when she remains important to Subaru.

Yeah, that's my thought. Or you have a Rem/Ram establishing shot and a screenwipe where Rem vanishes. Something like that, there's a million ways to do it. Could even do it like how Jojo's OP2 handled it for Caesar.

Arc 6 man. Subaru's gonna get the Gluttony authority in this arc. Since his abilities are a sort of shitty reverse from what Archbishops get, he will most likely gain the ability to share memories kind of like a harvest
festival. It'll have practical use in making enemies witness his deaths without being too overpowered

he has a family to look after now and a lot of friends so I think he'll be alright

I always had a thought that Tappei might pull a MT and give Rigel and Spica an entire spin off novel after the ending of the "main timeline" where they are thrust into the plot Subaru and Rem did not finish.

He said bittersweet, not that it would be bad. So that could be anything from Subaru getting sealed along with Satella or not getting with Emilia or maybe just that in endgame a couple characters die for real or something. Maybe just it sells that he'll never go back to Earth, or maybe he does go back to Earth, who knows.

All it takes is a reminder of how he failed. How he couldn't restart from zero to save Emilia, the girl he loved. All it takes is another death, and bam, he's back at the Appa stand and all those years are gone.

Subaru seems to have almost no problems or regrets about it. It's almost disturbing how much he dropped Emilia like a hot potato in the Rem IF. Rem, however, is incredibly guilty about what they abandoned, most notably Ram, but she clearly carries guilt about Emilia as well and has terrible self-esteem.

authors tend to change their endings a lot, iirc Sui Ishida said tokyo ghoul wouldn't have a good ending and it ended up being a disney movie ending so maybe it's just a bluff.

All of Tappei's lolis are really powerful in one way or another. Beatrice, Meili, Capella, Typhon, Daphne, Felt, Louis, Petra (at least in terms of mental strength proportional to her age), hell even Liliana is pretty OP.

Have you read the LN of Arc 3? At that stage of Subaru, in opinion, did not give a rat's ass about Emilia. The villagers, Rem, the children were more important. Infact after Subaru regains his "sanity" Emilia's name does not come up even once in his rage filled ramblings inside his head.

In this case Tappei had the ending first. Although I should say 'part of the ending', it's the main part of the ending I guess or at least the relevant part to Tappei, but I doubt it's changed much. Additional stuff around that though seems to have resulted in an entire arc being added.
