The romance is less than 5% of Oregairu, it's more of a coming of age story. We've seen Hachiman's subtle growth and maturation little by little.

its not so easy to untangle the romance from the character growth. the budding love was fairly integral to 8man reconciling his disdain for normie-hood and his desire for acceptance. it raised the stakes, forcing his character to find balance and not deal in self-imposed absolutes.
