Kanao is basically a damsel in distress story with a character as flat as a board. Practically all girls in the series was flat. Even Daki was a damsel in distress used only to make her brother shine as a better character.

Inosuke was a better character by many lightyears.
He worked hard for his place, don't care whether rescue arrives or not, and only cares about improving himself till he became on par with the Sues
Every time he boast, he never comes as jerk because he can really back it.

Damsel in Distress refers to a girl who's been kidnapped or imprisoned, user. Just because a character is a girl and is going through a distressing situation doesn't mean she's a damsel in distress.

She was a victim of a homicide where her parents killed all her siblings and was sold to slavery till she was rescued by the sisters. That's a damsel, alright
If there's any other story that can be squeezed out of that, it would be nothing more than gratitude and self-sacrifice. It isn't bad, but it sure is cliche at this point.

Not that user but Damsels in Distress are typically a female character in peril who is saved by a man, commonly their love interest.

I thought you meant that she was a damsel during the Douma fight. Anyways that still doesn't make Daki a damsel. The only people I can think of who fight the "damsel in distress" criteria over the course of the series are Uzui's wives and Zenitsu during the Red Light District arc.

I'd add the caveat that to be a damsel, you can't fight back against whatever puts you in peril. An archetypical damsel is weak and useless in a fight, which is why they usually get kidnapped.

If I say that Gyutarou had a life story that meant I understood why he embraced demonhood, I'd say the the cremation story and constant childhood illness of Muzan moved him to about a .25 on the Gyutarou scale.
