I've watched Sayonara no Tsubasa few days ago and I still can't stop replaying the OST from it even though at this point I am almost sick of it. Damn, it is such a great movie.

Only the tv series. Sheryl and songs literally carried it. Movies on the other hand are really great. They've fixed a lot of issues that I had with Alto and Ranka in the main show.

Only the first movie, second movie looks nice, but it puts TV's story to shame. F's OST is good in any form.

I don't remember the specifics, but in general what I liked the most about Macross Frontier was the amazing worldbuilding, seeing Ranka work herself upwards into being an idol, the songs, and don't actually remember if there was much of it but if there were SoL moments I probably enjoyed those too. And maybe the fanservice to the old Macross.
The worst part of Macross Frontier were the action scenes, especially in space, they were almost always boring.
So if they shifted the balance to more action, it'd make sense that I'd dislike it.

Well those were movies so they had much more tight time constrains. And still I think that despite all that they did a great job. Ranka's way to success is much more gradual comparing to the tv series and secondary characters still get their fair share of character development. Michael does not die, Klan is happy, Ozuma actually does something useful inn the 2nd movie, Grace is not evil. Hack, even Ranka's personal pet is way cuter in the movies than he was in tv series

A bit unrelated and I know that people treat it mostly like a fun trainwreck but I genuinely think that pic related is almost as good as Frontier. If only visually it was a bit better.

I really don't remember the specifics, I just remember that Frontier had many great moments and that the movies were boring.
I've only seen each thing once.
(And skipped through the show for pictures of Ranka's backpack from various angles)

was also great. It really played well into the narrative. It really showed how Ranka was taking over, and it was so clever to use a unique opening to show that

Macross Frontier has so many good things to like.

Movies were meant to be an addition to the tv series not the substitute (even if they are a retelling of the original plot). You simply cannot pack 25 episodes into a 2 movies. They even feel like some sort of New Game+ simply because of how right of the bat Ranka, Alto and Sheryl all care about each other.

Disagree. Sheryl sings better but Ranka is better at pronouncing English words. And it is even pointless to argue because their best songs are when they sing together

SDF was garbage too. It started out good, but the final cour was so ridiculously bad, it retroactively ruined everything. Had it ended on the big battle, it would have been great. But it went out with a pathetic whimper.

I think everyone who likes macross knows that and pretends the final arc doesnt exist
